Any thoughts on who the first player off the board will be?

R. Rich

I think the first player taken will be the first one off the board.

Well for owners who drop the first round, Its going to be interesting to see what quality QB they manage to pick up.

Sabre Ally

I almost have to get someone in the first round, because I know I'm going to be too busy on my days off Monday and Tuesday to pick in all of rounds 2-4.

I won't be here to pick on Monday or Tuesday. You can always send a list of players to me and we can take the person at the top of the list for you. Devin is going to help me out when I am not around.

I may end up picking in the first and second and drop the 3rd since its a 7.5 mil round as well.

Gotta be resourceful and save some cash somewhere.

Im definitely not taking a QB first

Devin

I am still looking it over but I probably will.

There are only around 10 or so in the elite class, and for the first year or two I want some stability.

I'm sure QBs will be a bunch of the 1st picks off the board.

Devin
04-14-2005, 04:52 PM
Well imo you need a good general to start. But as I said earlier some people will be building for the future. I mean think about it if you skip the first 6-7 rounds, you will have some cheap players (probably not a half bad team in all honesty) and a boatload of cap room next year. So it will depend fully on your strategy.

So far, it's going the way I thought it would....Peyton Manning, Daunte Culpepper gone. Walter Jones gone very early. Interesting move. And I wanted a QB who can run around behind my line and still pass, so I have McNabb. :D

with 20 owners 40-45 will be hard to attain. I am in a league with 32 owners and my OL last year (with TE and FB) was a 33. One injury can blow that in a heartbeat.

One note of clarification...if you PASS in a certain round it does not mean you forfeit your right to make a selection in that round or trade that pick. You can still pick or trade until the round is closed.

Because this is new and I want everybody to have a chance at a first round pick I have kept the first round open for this weekend. This is a one time offer!

true...I think there are two levels here...you can win this year and be competetive next...the real strategy starts after the season when long term deals get handed out. Then you have to cut and really build a team and more strategy comes into play. The first year is almost a freebie. You can spend a lot of money without reprocussions.

Devin

But if you dust off the trsuty calculator, most of us are going to have to skip at least 2 of the higher rounds.

Rich has two 2nd and 3rd round picks now yes? Thats 30 mil right there on 4 players. I am not questioning anyones strategy at all I am sure you all know what your doing. But with 15-20 players left I added it up and was approaching critical mass. And im out of the third and hopefully 6th round.

Madden if youll notice always revolves around the offense.

What I mean is of course a good D/O-Line help but if your QB is 99 as well as your RB, youll have a winning season on them alone. Its kinda bad.

An emmense knowledge of football is the biggest help.

That isnt true.

Knowing how to manage your money will help probably more. you need to know what rounds you can draft in and what to trade out of. You can draft 10 All-pro's in a row. Super now what? 43 other places to fill.

its just like why Tony Gonzalez goes so early in Fantasy Football. For me anyway I see only 3 elite safeties in the NFL. I have the youngest and one of the most talented. I think any QB can perform in a SIM I dont care if I get Jeff Garcia I am sure he will do just fine throwing to TO :funny:

Devin

a lot of it depends on how the sim is setup. In madden if you have a 70-75 rated QB he plays at that level....average.

Like i said I'm not questioning anyones stradegy, because I'm sure most are questioning mine LOL. yeah thats what I mean, a sim is just that a sim. Any madden player knows if you sim instead of play the game yourself you can be blown out even with a powerhouse team.

The key will not only be injuries but building a solid core of 4-5 all stars at the skill positions.

Based on last years stats for this year, Yes he went way too high but based on keeping him for the next 5 seasons do you still think that is too high and considering this is a Bills Fan site I dont think he would have lasted 18 more spots in the second round so I gambled hope I dont get snake eyes

Not that there's much that can be said now, but I think he would've lasted at least another 18.

The King

too many good RB's for me to take one before the 5th. LT was only one I would take in the first 2 rounds.

LT is the only RB I would have taken in the first.

Took a chance, could explode in my face, but if he gets me 15-20 TDS a year ove the next 5 years cant complain about payin $10 mil a year for that add in to that 30-35 TDs a year by Culpepper thats a team that will score a min of 315-385 pts a year or avg 19-24 pts per game based on a 16 game schedule with that asa base that is a pretty good start

Well McGahee's salary grows every year by 1.5 mil I believe... that's eventually gonna be pretty hefty if he doesn't produce.

can always cut Mc Gahee loose but based on last years stats Willis had 13 TDS in what 11 games and LT had 18 TDS in 16 games not too much difference there in production not that I am saying Willis is better than LT at this point but remember this is all stat based

Devin
04-15-2005, 03:54 PM
but think of it this way.

20 Mill in the first round. the 4th/5th rounds alone are like 27 mil combined. (assuming you skip 1 or both of the 2nd/3rd rounds) Thats 47 mil unless you choose 1 in the 2nd/3rd rounds. on 8 players. Thats a lot of cap money.

Not to mention you have 45 other players to sign.

That Guy
04-15-2005, 03:54 PM
I don't really think there is any kind of genius as far as player evaluating... all of the rankings you need are basically right in front of you. Being smart with your money is probably going to be the largest factor.

it is tought to decrease the time limit...many folks are at work and will end up sliding in under the wire. I almost missed giving somebody their pick today. It is really tough to be patient I know but when we start picking 2 and 4 in a day you will see it will be ok...
