Just something I can use to keep things in check.

This year it is really easy. Add up the value of the players you draft.

You start with $85mil. If you draft somebody in each of the first 9 rounds if will cost you $52 mil. That will leave you $31 mil draft 44 players. You will be doing a lot of drafting at the $1 mil level and less.

Here is the kicker. Next season you have to hand out long term contracts. If you choose to keep all 9 of those players it will count $52 mil against your cap. Again, you will have $31 mil to draft 44 players. But, the following year it will cost you at least $61 mil to keep those 9 players leaving only $24 mil to sign 44 players. That is where it starts getting interesting. You can blow your wad this year but you have to be judicious with your camp numbers in the future!

One last hint. You can stock your team with 22 starters in the first 22 rounds. It will cost you $79 mil. That means you will have $6 mil to draft you other 31 players. Your back-ups will be making very little money. Which, again, is fine.

Next season you can keep those 22 starters and draft a lot of cheap guys again. The following season you will be gutting part of your team because of the increases in salaries.

Thanks for the heads up. Basically, win now or bust
