How does the NFL enforce the salary cap? What are the sanctions if a team is over? Obviously, teams go to great lengths to stay within the cap rules- I'm just wondering what the NFL uses to force them into such diligence.

If I remember correctly, stiff fines are imposed. For some reason, I'm thinking the 49ers or the Steelers were over for a short period sometime in the last few years. :scratch:
