Cheap insurance. Frees up a draft pick for another position.

Sounds good to me. I say we are solid at the QB position now.

This is weird. They already have 4 QBs on the roster. Now we are going with 5? Anyone else curious about this?

QB JP Losman
QB Kelly Holcomb
QB Shane Matthews
QB Tory Woodbury
QB Kevin Thompson (doing pretty good in NFL Europe)

Cut the last 2 on that list.

true, but they already have 4 other QBs on the team. I don't know. It just seems weird to me. I like it though. He can be used as an extra coach at training camp with JP and the younger QBs.

Jp is gonna need all the help he can from vets qb's who've been there and done that.

Why would you want 2 older vets as your 2nd and 3rd stringers? Isn't your 3rd stringer usually someone like a Thompson or someone they get in the draft late rounds or UDFA?

Besides, the more veteran guidance we have for JP, the sooner he'll be up to speed hopefully.

Are you kidding me? Matthews has never been anywhere or done anything. :shakeno:

NFLE guy goes to the PS. Other guy is camp fodder.

because usually a project is #3. The Bills already have their project starting. Maybe Matthews and JP had a really good relationship last year and they want to keep him here to help JP.

That's true. Hopefully both of them are tied to his hips until Training Camp...all offseason long and he mini camps too.

Maybe becaue Matthews was on the verge of retirement and he probably came back because the Bills gave him the 3rd qb job.

Are you kidding me? Matthews has never been anywhere or done anything. :shakeno:Neither has Levy ,Mularkey or Bill Bellichick (to name a few)when it comes to playing on the field.

I love this. The competition created in camp could only enhance JPs game.

It's good for one reason - stability. He was here last year, knows the offense, and probably hung out with JP making fun of Drew as he stunk it up on the field. :snicker:

And, he probably knows the offense better than K.Holcomb at this point. Mathews is the son of a coach and, in addition to being a cheap insurance policy, probably has a bit more insight in how to get through to a younger guy.

I agree. T.Woodbury is a "Slash" type player who had more receptions for the NY Jets than pass attempts and plays special teams. I think he probably will get more work at WR and STs than at QB in camp, but gives the Bills a guy who can take some snaps in practice during training camp. If he makes the final roster, it won't be as a QB, but as a ST ace and trick-play guy. But, I doubt that he will make the team.

Cut Woodbury, give Thompson some preseason action, then PS him, then activate him during the season if desired or if injury opens up a roster spot. Matthews may be a midseason cut.

The reason to go with a vet like Matthews is that Losman is going to get most of the reps in practice - that is why they named him the starter. A project QB at #3 won't develop at all under those circumstances.
