I could see if they were letting in some absurd number of goals a game, but it's just silly to blame them when there's nobody scoring any goals!!!!! Article exerpt:
First, blue-chip prospect Ryan Miller was called up from Rochester last month and started two games.
Then Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier recently revealed he had been shopping for a new goalie. That search apparently has been put on hold since Biron has won three of his past four starts, including one by shutout.
Regier's still searching for offensive help, but he and coach Lindy Ruff have placed a preponderance of the responsibility on the goalies.
"There's lots of reasons why we're losing games," Noronen said. "To put it on Marty's shoulders and my shoulders, it's a team thing. It's not just about goalies.
"There's been some mistakes from us, and lots of mistakes from them, too. It's not just us."
Biron is 6-11-3 with a 2.55 goals-against average and .898 save percentage. Noronen is 0-4-1 with a 2.75 GAA and .900 save percentage. The Sabres are tied for fifth in fewest goals allowed in the Eastern Conference this season.
But the team also is on pace to score 188 goals, the fewest in club history next to the strike-shortened 1994-95 season.
"It's easy to blame the goalie when the team's playing bad, to point to them as the reason," Noronen said. "We play a big part. If we don't stop the puck, it's a goal. But we can't score for us, either."
Maybe the Sabres got used to getting bailed out by Dominik Hasek.
