I always believe you get a better feeling about a new coach in his second year. I was too young to remember what it was like when Marv took over the Bills but I know the experience of Wade Philips. He impressed me with his first season, but by his second season I'm convinced that he's a average to good HC who just won't win you anything big. Gregg Williams got an easy pass in his 3-13 season, but it was his 8-8 year that told me that he's not ready as a HC - too many attributes to enumerate.

Regardless Mularkay did last year, I gave him a pass. This is his second year and he has to know the team better and has a clear strategy where he wants to go. The biggest decision he made so far is to jettison Bledsoe and go with Losman. Right there we'll see his judgement on what he has on this Bills team.

I do want to point out that I liked what he did last season, taking the bad with the good. Now if he gets off another slow start, then all bets are off ...
