    Did you know?

Gandy was selected 27 picks before Jonas Jennings in the 2001 draft.

Gandy was selected with the 6th pick in the 3rd round while Jennings was seleceted with the 33rd pick in the 3rd round.

I just thought it was interesting. Of course this does not mean that Gandy is better than Jennings but at least comming out of college Gandy was a better prospect.

With a few years of experience and a good line coach Gandy could be a solid starter.

The 2001 Sporting News Draft Guide entry

    under Guards
6th ranked behind Steve Hutchinson, Chad Ward, Omar Smith, Pork Chop Womack, and Paul Zukauskas

projected to go in the 4th round
    NFL comparison: Matt O'Dwyer, Bengals
Strengths: Has a good body type for the position. Smart player. Shows good quickness off the ball and usually gets good positioning. Reacts well to stunts and blitzes. Is very aggressive. Best trait might be way he works to finish every play.
Weaknesses:Doesn't have much game experience because of injuries. Needs to improve on technique. Needs to show more pop at the point of atack in the running game.
Bottom line: An aggressive, intelligent guard who plays game the way its supposed to be played. Doesn't have great quickness or strength but is adequate in both areas. Gets by on brains and hard work.

Great, an injury history in college too, eh? Sounds like a TD guy.

umm, how can he show quickness off the ball and get good positioning, but still need more "pop at the point of attack"? Sounds like they put the same thing under strengths and weaknesses- hope you didn't pay too much for that draft guide.

I'm guessing they meant in getting out of his 3-point stance

They mean pop by arm pop, like when he's blocking they wanna see him give the guy a better pop in the chest

sounds logical...the quickness in getting into position...and the arm pop in engaging his blocks

I'm a little worried that Gandy is quite injury prone. What do you guys think?

The guy he is replacing wasn't exactly known for his durability either...

I like hearing this. If there's one thing this OL has been poor at, this is it.

I agree. It's not like Jennings started and finished 16 games. It's not like we are losing an all-pro. Was Jennings good? Yes, but how good?

the niners are about the only ones in the league that thought that.
