I don't know if Winslow is a "bust" because his problem has been injuries. Leaf just sucked.

Others:
Tony Mandarich
Aundray Bruce
Akili Smith
All of the expansion Browns' previous first-rounders

Easy....
A) Blair Thomas
B) Anthony Becht

yeah but when winslow actually did play, he wasn't a high impact player, like touted to be.....then again he is with the brownies, which had probably some of the worst offensive statistics for the year.

whats even sadder, is that ive even heard people saying that peyton manning is a bust, because he can't make it to the big game...... in a way i agree, but its not his fault their defense is soft

Easy....
A) Blair Thomas
B) Anthony Becht

blair thomas is very much agreeable.....

how about a spin...... biggest coaching bust?!?!?

my candidates
A. Rich Kotite
B. Lou Holtz

Winslow's entire NFL career is what, two weeks? Too early to judge, I think.

Who is the bigger idiot? Leaf or Winslow

Tough call. A lazy number one pick who was once heckled by a fan as having "lunch lady arms" or a young daredevil rebel with fragile knees and a big mouth who's O.M. seems to be to dissappoint his successful Dad. I'd have to take Leaf at this time but it could very well change in the near future.

I once spoke to Tony Mandarich back at Michigan State, he was working at Gold's Gym, I remember him saying he would not be another Brian Bosworth.

He turned out worse.

BTW- he seemed to be a real nice guy.

I'd have to go with Ryan Leaf simply because so much is expected of a QB that is taken that high in the draft and he really did look like he had all of the tools necessary to be a good QB in the NFL. A bust like he was can set a team back a long time.

Leaf is a bust. Winslow is a bust trainee.

Ryan Leaf has to be the biggest bust in NFL history. C'mon don't you remember how many people were saying Leaf was even better than Peyton?

Honorable mention: Drunkemiller, Couch?

Someone mentioned Akili Smith. I remember before the 99 draft ESPN did a special on the top 4 QB's that year and the Browns almost took Smith #1. They showed all the players workouts and Smith was by far the best.

i dont think winslow is a bust.. he is an idiot.. but you can not judge his play of 2 games at the beginning of last season.. he was a rookie.. learning the offense and working with what around him on offense? he is an idiot for getting hurt on the motorcycle.. he broke his leg last year playing special teams.. trying to help his team win.. bottom line.. i would take him still.. he is just an idiot for riding a bike. period.

leaf was about as bad as it gets.. mandarich was pretty horrible too.. how a guy can be that good in college and that strong and then just be that aweful in the pros.. i just dont know how that can happen.. normally Olinemen are at least serviceable if they dont live up to expectations..

drukenmiller should never have gone in the first. i could have told you that from watching him.. he was always a big dumb coke head who loved to take advantage of college chicks.. under no circumstances would he ever have been successfull.

Probably because Mandarich juiced his entire collegiate career.

very true.. but he was still good.. i guess maybe he was just overpowering people and his technique sucked.. i dont know.

Steve Spurrier
Gregg Williams

My choices exactly. I don't know what the Redskins were thinking with Spurrier. He coached a powerhouse college team that played 3 ranked teams a year and spent the rest of the season beating up on backwoods community colleges. Also, he played a spread style of offense that isn't going to work in the NFL, particularly in a division with good defenses and with the Redskin's personnel. It was Chuck and Duck part II.

There are so many bust every year. Maybe these kids just cant handle the physcological part of the job. They can be gifted physically but dumb as a box of rocks.

Bust coach: Marty Morningweg. He had the trusted SanFran/Green Bay pedigree and responded with a 5-27 record in his two seasons with the Lions.

One person mentioned Couch, but I can't believe he has not been on more lists. I guess at least he did have a couple decent seasons.

How about Courtney Brown and William Green?
Maybe we just expect failure from the Browns organization.

On that note, I don't think we can call Winslow a bust yet. Give him a full season. Besides, he busted himself up last year going for an onside kick. At least the kid has heart. Maybe he doesn't have two peas in his brain but he's a player, there is no doubt about that.

How about Eric Flowers? He was supposessed to be the heir apparent to Bruce! Did he ever have ONE productive season? At least Courtney Brown did.

Todd Marinovich was a huge bust. Ki-Jana Carter.

Lesser Bills busts: Lonnie Johnson, Todd Collins, Robert Hicks, Leif Larson,
Josh Reed....the list is almost endless......
but many don't really qualify as busts due to low expectations in the first place.

TheGhostofJimKelly

I wouldn't put any of those Bills players in the same category as Cryin Leaf or Tim Couch, at least he was picked in the 20s.

There are plenty of busts in the NFL. Winslow hasn't run out of time to do something yet, but he's definitely headed down the wrong road.

Leaf, hands down. He was the most expensive, most hyped and lasted the shortest of any #1 pick in history.
