All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!

Bills | May Call on Place Kicker - from www.KFFL.com
Wed, 11 May 2005 15:23:44 -0700
The Salt Lake Tribune reports undrafted rookie free agent PK Matt Payne (BYU) recently received a call from the Buffalo Bills. He is hopeful the Bills may extend an offer in two weeks. If not, other chances may come over the summer. "He had four great years," said BYU special teams coach Paul Tidwell. Payne has given up punting to focus on his place kicking.
As a kicker, he was rated one spot higher than Joe Rheem by Scout.com. He is also a punter, and was ranked second behind Dustin Colquitt by one of the draft services. He's probably worth a look.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?
this is the second no-name kicker we've contacted this off-season. If the staff is happy with Lindell, why bother? And if they're not happy with him, why not make an effort to get a real place kicker instead of these jokers? K is starting to rival O-line as far as neglected positions are concerned.

Moorman was once one of those "jokers" too. Granted his is a punter but I guarantee there are plenty of undrafted free agent kickers who have made teams and performed well - once they got someone to give them a chance.

I just hope the coaching staff doubts lindell enough to give this guy a chance.

If they are contacting this guy, I wonder if they would be interested in one of the four PKs currently with the Bears? Apparently the Bears are so unhappy with Paul Edinger that they drafted Nick Novak from Maryland and also brought in Tyler Jones, from Boise State, and Nick Setta, from Notre Dame, to compete with him for their PK job.
While I don't think much of Setta, I was hoping the Bills would bring in T.Jones and I read somewhere recently that N.Novak was impressive at the Bears rookie mini-camp.
Would P.Edinger be an improvement over Lindell? Is it possible that the Bills would bring in a rookie PK (either Novak or Jones) late in the preseason after he was cut by the Bears to compete with Lindell?
Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. And, thus it was that they surrendered their freedom; not with a bang, but without even a whimper.
