NFL folks often say with knowing solemnity that seasons are made or lost in December and that playoff berths and division titles are there for those who finish strong.
That's generally on the mark, but with two weeks left in the regular season, there's a strong possibility many of the league's 12 playoff spots could still be up for grabs by Christmas, especially in the AFC, which has yet to qualify a team and has 14 of 16 still eligible. With so many teams within a game or so of one another, the NFL's newly tweaked tiebreaking system is ready to play some December ball of its own.
