Parcells has meeting with Cowboys' Jones

Bill Parcells, out of coaching the last three years, admits he recently met with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for five hours and would consider returning to the NFL as a head coach -- in the right situation.
Parcells has coached the New York Giants, New England Patriots and New York Jets in a distinguished coaching career. He directed the Giants to two Super Bowl titles, and led the Pats to a Super Bowl appearance. Parcells is currently working as an NFL analyst for ESPN.
"I met with Jerry Jones on Wednesday," Parcells said in a statement. "We spoke for five hours. We discussed pro football, philosophy and the Cowboys. I have spoken to Jerry Jones several times over the years. He did not offer me a job with the Cowboys. Any speculation about the Cowboys head coaching job would be premature at this time." .....more

His habit of taking time off from coaching and then coming back is exactly why he's not in the Hall of Fame

they're gonna be better if parcells is their head coach and remember, they're a young team too with a lot of talent. But then again, we'll be a force next year, so it wouldn't matter to us who we play.

Parcells meets with Jones; Campo reportedly to be fired

Bill Parcells, out of coaching the last three years, said he met recently with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for five hours and would consider returning to the NFL as a head coach -- if it were the right situation.
It's possible the Cowboys' job may be open soon. The Dallas Morning News, citing sources close to Jones and Parcells, reported in Sunday editions that Jones has already decided to fire coach Dave Campo.
The Cowboys lost to the Eagles 27-3 on Saturday, marking their third straight 10-loss season under Campo. He's 15-32, prompting speculation that Jones will change coaches for the third time in six years.
Jones said Campo likely will remain the team's coach through the season finale Sunday in Washington. He made no promises beyond that, except to say a decision "is going to be very quick.'' .......more

Parcells said that Jones didn't offer him a job. Yeah rgiht. Jones came up to talk with you for five hours about football and the Cowboys. If thats not a job offer, then I dont know what is.

Report: Jones, Parcells to have another meeting

Bill Parcells, out of coaching the last three years, said he met recently with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for five hours and would consider returning to the NFL as a head coach -- if it were the right situation.

Sources told the Dallas Morning News on Sunday that Jones and Parcells have another meeting planned for next week.

Sources close to Jones told the newspaper if the second meeting goes smoothly, Jones could make an offer and would expect a response from Parcells right away.

Campo trying to remain upbeat despite circumstances

IRVING, Texas -- Dave Campo's favorite buzzword is "positive,'' and he does his best to approach life with that kind of attitude.

So even though his status as coach of the Dallas Cowboys is shaky, Campo remained upbeat Monday and tried lifting the spirits of everyone around him, too.

He told players in a team meeting that they should tune out all the talk about him being fired and Bill Parcells possibly being hired. Instead, he wants their attention squarely on extending a 10-game winning streak against Washington, Dallas' opponent in the season finale Sunday.

"His demeanor has been the same,'' running back Emmitt Smith said. "He's been on an even keel, trying to stay positive, trying to not lose focus.''

Jones says he will comply with NFL hiring guidelines

Even as the Jerry Jones-Bill Parcells mating dance continues, via a flurry of telephone calls and faxes that has put the potential coupling on the fast track, there are two elements that figure to temporarily stymie the Dallas Cowboys search for the successor to lame duck coach Dave Campo.

The first, resolving the delineation of responsibility within the organization, has already proved a stubborn problem even in the earliest stages of contract discussions. Team and NFL sources told ESPN.com Wednesday that, while Parcells is publicly insistent he will not require absolute control over football operations to end his hiatus, he still wants considerable clout.

The question is how much is Jones willing to give up of his GM duties and how the 2 EGOS will be able to live together under 1 roof (even if there is a hole in the center of it)!

Johnson says Parcells could get Dallas back on track

If anyone knows how to not get along with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, it's Jimmy Johnson.

And Johnson didn't think it was out of the ordinary for all to be right in Dallas if Bill Parcells decides to join the ship.

"I think they would work well together at least for a few years," Johnson told the New York Daily News on Wednesday. "They would work well together long enough to get it back on track. After a couple of years, they might get under each other's skin."

Campo's first order of business: win Sunday

IRVING, Texas -- Standing alone together in the end zone of a practice field, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and coach Dave Campo spoke for about 12 minutes Thursday.

The topic? According to Campo, it was strictly about the Washington Redskins, Sunday's opponent.

"We were talking about what we're going to do personnel-wise and that it would be nice to get a win,'' Campo said. "I don't know if that's No. 1 on his mind. It's No. 1 on my mind.''

                      Jones declined comment.

Banks: Cowboys' Jones talks to Green

While Bill Parcells remains the front-runner to land the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job, former Vikings head coach Dennis Green has surfaced as a potential second candidate for the position, a league source confirmed Friday night.

UPDATE: Despite reported deal, no Bill Parcells announcement Tuesday

Jerry Jones knows all about Bill Parcells' history of walking away from deals. So the Dallas Cowboys' owner wants to announce an agreement as soon as he can.
As of Tuesday, he was still waiting. And he probably will be until at least Thursday, despite reports that Parcells already has agreed to a four-year contract to coach the team. Maybe nothing more than logistics and the New Year's holiday are in the way. Still, Parcells' track record raises some doubt about whether the coach known for turning around woeful teams will try doing so with the Cowboys.

Parcells jilted Tampa Bay twice and Atlanta once. Last year, he got so close with the Buccaneers that he signed a contract, and now Tampa Bay wants compensation from any team that hires him. The Bucs will present their case to the commissioner's office Thursday.

NFL Will Hold Hearing On Bucs' Claim To Parcells
TAMPA - In a move that could delay the Dallas Cowboys plans to name Bill Parcells their new coach, the National Football League on Monday agreed to hold a hearing to determine whether the Bucs should be compensated for losing Parcells.
