From ESPN the magazine, page 84:

"The Bills can't pay FA WR Peerless Price the $12.5 bonus fellow WR Eric Moulds got. They need cash to improve their 30th ranked D. At the top of their wish list? Bears sack specialist Rosevelt Colvin, who, with 10.5 sacks through week 15, has 21 sacks the past two seasons..."

Here's his stat page from NFL.com -

Who on this team has played for Pittsburgh other than Johnson who is just on the team for depth.

Hopefully, they bring him in...

Same here. He'd be a cheaper alternative to Takeo Spikes, IMO.

he is a quality player, and would intantly turn our LB core into something to fear, Colvin is a pass rusher, but he lacks any great speed. one thing on this kid is for sure, he dosn't miss tackles.

Colvin plays SLB, Spikes plays WLB, I'd like to see both here

We could move Newman to WLB where he would be more free to rush the passer and start Colvin at SLB

I could just imagine Spikes, Fletcher, and Colvin back there....OUCH.

But we could never afford to pay 3 big salaries to LB's. I'll take Colvin over Spikes because of the cheaper rate. He would do just fine.

I'd also like to get Sammy Knight. Is he a FS or SS?

I think he's a SS. He's one of the most underrated players in the league. Never gets the recognition he deserves.

I think it is still a little early to be speculating on Free agents but it would be nice to pick him up though....

Newman is not happy here anymore and will be on his way out this year. We will need to get 2 good LBs this year and I think I would rather have Spikes.

From the Bears website, looks like the Colts are looking at him also:

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Rosevelt Colvin received a unique Christmas gift from Fox sports anchor Corey McPherrin and his sidekick, former Bears receiver Tom Waddle.

"Garbage bags to fill with money," Colvin explained with a laugh, "and an Indianapolis Colts media guide to get to know my new teammates."

The gag gift could come in handy March 1 when Colvin, an Indianapolis native, becomes an unrestricted free agent. The first Bears player to reach double-digits in sacks in back-to-back seasons since Richard Dent in 1990-91, Colvin figures to land a lucrative contract on the open market.

With that in mind, the 6-3, 245-pounder knows that Sunday night's season finale against Tampa Bay (7:30 p.m. CT, Ch. 7, ESPN) could be his last in a Bears uniform.

"I've thought about it a lot," he said, "but I'm just going to go out and play like I've been playing the last two years, the last 15 games of this season, and try to give my best effort to help us win the game."

The Bears would like to re-sign Colvin, but they might be unable to compete for his services due to salary cap restraints. They've already signed Jerry Azumah, Marty Booker, Phillip Daniels, Warrick Holdman, R.W. McQuarters and Bryan Robinson to big contracts.

The Bears want to keep one of the league's best linebacking trios together-Pro Bowler Brian Urlacher is under contract through 2004 and Holdman is tied up through 2005. The team tried to negotiate an extension with Colvin before the season, but the two sides were far apart.

"I've enjoyed playing with Brian and the guys on defense, even the guys on offense," Colvin said. "It's been a fun-filled four years and I look forward to many more in the future, but like I said, it's up in the air and we'll have to wait and see what happens."

Colvin feels there's still a chance he'll be back with the Bears. Then again, he probably won't be buying any green bananas this week.

"I don't think it's a done deal," he said. "I think it's 50/50. If the Bears want me back, then they'll offer it. If they don't, I'll just have to move on."

Colvin joined the Bears as a 1999 fourth-round draft pick. He registered a team-high 10.5 sacks last season, becoming the first Chicago player to reach double-digits since 1995. After matching that total in 2002, he's eager to hit the free agent market.

"For me it's something different, something that everybody doesn't get to go through," Colvin said. "It's like going back to college and getting recruited out of high school.

"But I'm still a Bear. I've got until March 1 and I'm going to enjoy my 'Bearness' until then and after that we'll see what happens."
