View Full Version : My impressions from camp tonight

Here are some of my impressions of the palyers from tonights practice :

Offense

1.) Losman- About what I expected. Some really nice throws mixed in with some pretty crappy throws. It's nice to see a QB that can actually move around the pocket when things break down.

2.) Gandy- I sure hope TD is looking at either Stussie or Verba. Schobel beat Gandy like a rented mule on several occasions tonight. He's going to get Losman killed if he doesn't improve dramatically, soon!

3.) Reed- He's done. I just think from watching him tonight that he doesn't do anything exceptionally well. He's not that fast and doesn't have sure hands. I really think he'll be cut. Funny story. Reed catches a ball in one of the drills and Campbell is running with him and grabs him by the jersy and tells him that he'll escort him to the endzone in case he forgot where it was. Ouch! Got a pretty good laugh out of the crowd.

4.) Parrish- Fast as all he11 and has great hands. Needs to work on getting seperation from the DB at the line. If he can do that, look out. He's got the type of speed that makes you just shake your head in amazement.

5.) Aiken- Was perhaps the most impressive WR tonight. Made play after play after play. If he's given a chance, I think he's going to be pretty solid.

6.) Moulds- Looked pretty good. Came back to the ball when things broke down and provided Losman an opportunity to make a play. I reallly don't see any signs of Mouilds slowing down any time soon. He's looks to be in great shape.

7.) Evans- Not too much to report here. Didn't really see many balls thrown his way.

8.) S. Williams- Aside from Willis, he looked to be the leading candidate for the backup RB job. Had some nice runs and appears to have added some bulk in the off season.

9). Willis- One word : STUD. Looks as though the burst is back and he's going to be a load to handle this year. In the 11 on 11 drills, he hit the hole and outran the entire 1st string secondary. It wasn't even close. He has that swagger about him and I think he's going to have a monster year.

10.) B. Anderson- This guy is huge. He makes Kirsty Alley look like Kate Moss. Looked pretty good in both pass blocking and run blocking. I really think he needs to drop a few pounds before the season starts. He seemed winded after several of the plays.

Defense

1.) Schobel- Looked pretty good. Then again, he was going against Gandy the majority of the time. See the above comment on Gandy.

2.) Spikes- Same old same old. Looks like the pro bowler that he is.

3.) Clements- See above comment.

4.) McGee- He's going to be a good one. I watched him run step for step with Evans as one of the plays broke down. Losman threw to Evans and McGee was there to deflect the ball away.

5.) Adams- How this guy is able to move as well as he does is beyond me. He's huge and looks to be in mid-season form.

6.) Milloy- Intense. Looks like he's on a mission this year. He was talkin a lot of smack throughout most of the practice. Brings it on every play.

Thats all I got. It's really hard to take much from these type of practices. They were in just helmets and shoulder pads so the contact was limited. Should be an interesting year.

Mikey was talking about the AM practice...I was at both and Reed was horrid tonight. On punt catching he let a duck of a punt go instead of fair catching or fielding it, and it rolled all the way down to the goal line. One of the special teams coaches was furrious with him. I won't be suprised if he's outright cut either.....

The person who actually impressed me the most tonight and got the most applause from the crowd..the one..the only..Brian Moorman. He consistantly stuck punts inside the ten, one after another. Very good looking punts too. He better not get screwed from the pro bowl again this year.

Great post man:) I appreciate the updates... How are the special teamers looking? Like Stamer & Crowell>?

-Reed- i agree he gets cut. Aiken has the skills and has worked hard.. we'll see...

-Holcomb ?
-Jason Peters? Rex Tucker? Duke Preston? Sape?
I know Milloy & our studs are on point. I wanna know the rooks and depth..

Man i'm so jealous! I wish i could be there.........

He will as long as Lechler is healthy :(
Lechler is that good but Moorman has more talent and plays in Buff opposed to Sunny Cali. I swear i'll never forget that play he called for the block & the sweet pass he threw... At the same time i hop Lamont Jordan bust in Oaakland for that cheap ass hit that looked like it knocked Moorman into next week. I've hated Lamont ever since...

**Just curious what others think about Moorman on kickoffs. To much on his legs? Man i miss touchbacks:(

Moorman looked awesome...Lindell didnt do much in front of people..Stamer and Crowell looked good when they were playin LB, Reed dropped a ball on an out route that was right in the numbers:crap: Holcomb looked very crisp and had very good timing....Preston was involved in a little frucus with Anderson and someone else (Anderson was punching him in the kidney!).....I agree something has to be done about LT...all in all not a bad first practice...:bf1:

Thanks for the report, Bulldog! I wish I could be there and really appreciate the reports. Please keep them coming. Thanks!!!

If Reed and Gandy continue to struggle, I wouldn't be surprised to see Reed cut and a move made to bring in R.Verba. I know that it usually takes a fair amount of time for a McNally-coached line to round into shape, but it doesn't sound like Gandy brought whatever he showed the coaches in the OTAs out onto the practice field in either session today---and that ain't good.....

The Bills' website has some video clips of Saturday's practices:

From the little the clips show, I'd have to agree with your comments about Reed and Parrish. Reed just doesn't look like he has it. Parrish, on the other hand, looks incredibly quick and fast.

I wouldn't put too much stock - positive or negative - in anyone's performance on the first day of camp. It's a little early to cut Reed or replace Gandy.

On the blocking drills peters seemed to handle shobel without a problem.

I loved the play where Moulds purposly cut across the field to beat the db.

Liked seeing Woodbury doing some ST stuff, if the guy is an athelete let him make the team. Id like to see mathews go.

Walked by Van Miller and shook his hand, doesnt look to be doing so well :(

Anyone see Ralph?

It took 18 replies before somebody got it right

However, if you're getting owned by Schobel on the FIRST DAY of camp and you're suppossed to be blind-side protection for a 1st year starter at QB, I'd be concerned. This line will be the death of Losman this year.

i thought that gandy looked good in the am practice. He was doing as good as I expected him to. And if he slipped up a little, mcnally did a little coaching. Thats how you get better, you make a mistake in practice, your coach tells you what your doing wrong so you can correct it and NOT do it during a game.

Morning practice highlights.
Josh Reed dropped a beautiful pass from JP in the morning practice, uggh.

JP threw a beautiful timing pass to moulds on an out pattern for about 20 yards.

JP was flushed from the pocket rolled right and found campbell for about 20 yards

Looks like Losman to Evans is going to be huge. You said you didnt see much thrown to him, the A.M. practice JP was throwing to Evans alot and it seems as though JP can find Lee whenever he gets into trouble.

Losman made a few bad throws but thats expected. the good thing is that he looked really good on most of the plays, and thats what we need.

Kelly Holcomb looked good as well he was throwing alot of long passes and connected on alot of them.

Yeah Van didnt look to great...still walking and all but looks skinny and brittle...I saw Ralphy, he walked up the aisle next to my seats...he looks old but VERY good for an 89 year old...He got an applause from the crowd as he walked up to the booth, he stopped and gave a waive to everyone and then continued to sit outside the booth instead of going in...almost as if among the fans...The fans in the top row could have turned around and had a conversation with him if they wanted...he was right there...Also it was good to see Stevie Tasker!
