Your resident capologists are feverishly  working on updating y'all on the 2003 cap situation of the Bills'.

Just a very brief outlook:

44 players signed for 2003 (however, a couple like DT Robertson, WR R. Allen, and RB Dinkins status is unclear)

Salaries: $36,869,250
Bonuses(all types): $16,621,416
Dead cap: $7,998,853
Total: $61,489,519
Projected cap: $73,900,000

Bills' under 2003 cap by $12,410,481

This can potentially be less due to cap adjustments from NLTBE debit (Bills had a 2002 debit of over $2 million mostly from AVP performance in 2001)

UFAs: Sign with any team of their choice

DE Ahanotu: it appears Bills want him back
K Hollis: PLEASE bring him back
C Conaty: Unknown but likely to test FA
RB Bryson: Career in jeopardy? I wouldn't re-sign
LB Newman: Likely to test FA
WR Price: Regardless of comments, most likely to test FA
WR C. Johnson: I would re-sign for minimum
LB Favors: I hope he returns and is given chance to be the #4 OLB and a special teams ace

RFAs: other teams can negotiate

RB Morris: minimum qualifying offer yields 5th rd pick compensation. Could attract interest in FA.
LB Polk: 7th rd compensation. Could also attract interest in FA
QB T. Brown: No compensation but can match if tendered. Not likely to attract much attention
DT Larsen: 6th rd compensation. Bills' probably will not tender min. qualifying offer

EFAs: only Bills can negotiate

FB Crosby: becoming solid lead blocker and will get tendered
P Moorman: alternate to the Pro-Bowl....absolutely will be tendered.
DE Office: likely to be tendered but will have fight to make team

Assuming minimum qualifying offers for those RFAs and EFAs with exception of Larsen....Bills will then technically have 50 players under contract. The tender offers will take up approx. $3 million of the cap

Bills' under by about $9.4 million

all salaries count vs cap until more than 51 players are signed, then only the top 51 salaries count vs cap. Also, the minimum salaries are usually adjusted each year and that will likely take up a few hundred thousand of the cap, but not clear exactly as too how much at this time.

Have more soon :hitself:

How much would cutting the bum Chris Watson save us on the cap?

Not much........less than a million. I believe that it is a foregone conclusion he will be looking for employment elsewhere

I think that the Bills get the debit Clump, because AskTheCommish says that the Bills will be $14.7M under the cap (they say $15.8M, but that's assuming a cap of $75M, when in fact it will be $73.9M).

Well, my numbers above do NOT include a debit. The numbers on the site may not include the signing of DE Marcus Jones (cap number of about $1.5 million) and I've assigned minimum qualifying offers....we should know more in about a month

Miami will be OVER the cap because Ricky's incentives in 2002 have added as much as $4.25 million to their 2003 cap. Jason Taylor will likely exceed his LTBE, so that will also increase the NLTBE debit on 2003

Sorry, I didn't mean to say debit.

No problem Doc. What did you mean to say? :)

I guess I meant credit, because a debit would have reduced the $12M figure you gave instead of raising it to $14.7M. As for the article, it was written 12/19 which was a month after Jones signed, so I'd have to assume they had his numbers as well.

After a 3-13 season, the Bills had a debit of approx. $2.3 million on the 2002. Thus, TD and the Bills had only $68.8 million salary cap. Most of that debit was due to AVP, who played much more than originally expected. It's likely that the Bills will once again have a debit that will reduce the expected $73.9 million. How much? Unfortunately, neither Eb or I have the information to determine LTBE & NLTBE :(

So, Ricky is costing Miami big cap dollars. Should we all give Ricky a cheer? :drunks:
