Scrimmage with Bills adds twist to training camp
Mike Sherman wasn't too keen on the idea at first.
The Green Bay Packers coach was at the annual NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis last February when Buffalo Bills coach Mike Mularkey approached him with a proposition. Buffalo's usual training-camp practice partner, the Cleveland Browns, had ended their arrangement of practicing against the Bills for a few days each year, and Mularkey thought the Packers would be an ideal fill-in.
The Packers, meanwhile, hadn't shared the practice field with another team since inviting the New England Patriots to town in 1991, the final year of the Lindy Infante regime. When Mike Holmgren took over in 1992, he put the kibosh on the whole concept, not wanting to share his practice procedures with anyone.
