FINALLY they signed someone, and a d-man! and a decent d-man :), it's nothing spectacular but I think he'll fill the void for Zhitnik and then some!!!
now all we need is a goal scorer or 2 and we are set

um...better is certainly debatable in this instance...
age has to be a consideration...

If he can hit within 5 feet of the net from the point he's an upgrade over Z.

i don't think its a horrible signing for one year...but its not like z doesn't have experience...if his health can hold up..it'll probably be worthwhile...i.e. cap reasons...

If the plan is to have Kalinin be the 30 minute a night guy then does that mean that Numminen only needs to replace Kalinin?

Last time I checked this organization never has any plans. It's more of a spur of the moment kind of thing.

2003-2004 Stats.....
Numminen: 3 goals, 14 Assists
Zhitnik: 4 goals, 24 assists
Mind you career stats are hard to compare seeing Tepo is alot older.

maybe that's the only reason they tried signing him, cuz all the fans are starting to get pissed. he let all the top notch players go w/o even trying to get one of them.
and we still need a guy that can put points on the board... you can have a decent/great D, but unless you have guys to put points on the board you won't win games... another current Buffalo team is a perfect example of what I'm talking about :snicker:

Comparing defensemen is much more than comapring points in a career. And I think their yearly averages are fairly close anyway.

He's definitely getting up there in years, but Teppo is still a decent blueliner. He's definitely able to play the point on the PP, as well as still play 'D'. I like the signing, even if it isn't a "marquee" signing.
Now, for Darcy to just re-sign the 12 RFAs remaining, and keep the signings up. I know that both Kariya & Selanne were disappointing last season in Colorado, but wouldn't they be just the "marquee" signing (Kariya, preferrably) that would be needed to help make the fans come watch games?
