Thurman Thomas to help great causes today in Ottumwa

From his rookie year with the Buffalo Bills in 1988 - after being a Heisman Trophy finalist at Oklahoma State - to his final year in 2000 with the Miami Dolphins, Thomas established himself as one of the great running backs in NFL history.

These days, however, Thomas is about much more than the 12,074 rushing yards, five pro bowls and four Super Bowl appearances accomplished during his playing career. Buffalo's all-time leading rusher has spent the past five years out of pro football, giving back to communities around the nation.
Today, Thomas will be giving plenty to the City of Bridges. He will start as a guest at Don Thompson's youth football clinic, and will continue helping a very noble cause, raising money for the new cancer center at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Re: Thurman Thomas to help great causes today in Ottumwa

I actually got stranded by bad weather at the Ottumwa Airport one time. Since their were no services at the airport, my two business partners and I went out for beer and pizza in a cab driven by Santa Claus. No lie, he was a big fat guy with a white beard who had legally changed his name.

They do that kind of stuff in Ottumwa.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

He should be, but the alcohol and drug thing - even though it should be irrelevant - might hurt him in some voters' minds.

The cocaine didn't stop LT from being a slam dunk on the first ballot

I agree, but voters won't see Thurman being as dominant, or ground breaking, at his position as LT was.

4 consecutive years leading the league in yards from scrimmage..at a time when Emmitt, Barry, and Jerry Rice were all putting up big numbers
