Comes out tomorrow. I plan on getting it.

Did they increase the price to 65$ or was I just hearing a rumor? Anyone know what the price is?

I bought NCAA at Best Buy a few weeks ago and they gave me $5 towards madden. So now I'm only gonna pay 44.99... plus they have a deal if you buy it tomorrow at Best Buy you get to buy a greatest hits title for the PS2, XBOX, or GC for only $5 instead of 20. Two games for $55 after tax aint bad!

It sucks that they conveniently forgot the $29 bucks they charged last year to compete with ESPN NFL 2k5. Another example of why competition is good. I figure I will find somewhere to get a copy, be damned if I pay $50 for a game.

Madden wasn't $29 last year, the ESPN game was $29. Madden was $49 last year and $59 for the collectors edition.

Ea lowered the price of its NBA and MLB game this year to 29.99 so why didn't
they do that with Madden........guess you can do that when there is no competition.

I'm in the 3rd quarter, beating up on Miami 27-0... rushing is hard as hell for me though and thats usually my strong point. The vision cone didn't take me nearly as long as I expected to get used to and it works fairly well. The defense and special teams for Buffalo are sick though. I've given up 90 yards total thus far and returned the opening kickoff as well as a INT for TDs. Plus I knocked Feely out of the game too.

The King
08-09-2005, 02:42 PM
Im usually pretty nasty rushing the ball. Madden ripped off ESPN with the truck still but I tool on teams in NCAA so if its anything like that I am sure I will continue to dominate the run.

Tatonka
08-09-2005, 02:43 PM
what is the truck stick??

BlackMetalNinja
08-09-2005, 02:45 PM
basically you can use the right analog stick to bowl people over when you're rushing with the ball

The King
08-09-2005, 02:46 PM
what is the truck stick??Its what you use to juke in the new games.

Tapping it back will cause your runner to stop mid stride to dodge a tackle
Tapping it foward will deliver shoulder charge running over the defender
Left will juke left
right will juke right.

Once you get the hang of it you can use it a number of different ways. Faking left juking right that kind of stuff. It provides a ton of realism to the running game.

DraftBoy
08-09-2005, 02:49 PM
The passing game is harder but once you get it you immediately become a better passer, bc it forces you to read the D pre-snap to see if you should look long, or short depending on the safety play, or maybe hot route somebody. Running is tough but the truck stick helps alot, imo. I played a game last night and ended up with like 275 passing yards, 2TD, 1 INT, 123 running yards. So I was happy with that performance. One thing I really like is that in one on one coverage your WR (esp #1 WR) will go up and get the ball, even if it means breaking off the route a little short. So will the DB's though so its much more realistic in that effect, kinda cool imo. Overally its literally the same game, but I like it alot already and Im really enjoying playing it.

I like the vision cone alot to be perfectly honest. It makes the game much more challenging and allows you to learn to look and recognize man v. zone coverage. Also it makes you look for blitzes and audible out or hot route somebody. The cone can get you into trouble as its hard to scramble, look down field, and move the cone at the same time but NFL QB's gotta look and find the WR just as we as gamers do now. I give the game an A!

Wow, were did the last six hours go.... I have come to the conlusion that I need alot of practice on Madden. Good news is I decimated the Jets 72 - 0 on the rookie level. Still getting the hang of the QB vision, but I was able to hit Evans and Moulds for serveral completion over 20 yards.

I can only dream that the real life Bills will be that dominant. In they game they only allowed two first downs.

That should fill you in a bit... and no, you're not automatically a starter. I was a HB drafted in the 4th round by Chicago and was 3rd on the depth chart behind Benson and somebody else... I promptly stopped playing superstar mode and started a franchise with Buffalo instead. 2-0 after a last minute win over Houston and a blowout of the Bucs where Milloy had 4 INTs. QBs that aren't real good in real life seem to be equally awful on the game as both Feely and Simms threw lots of INTs, though David Carr played decent.

I imported my Heisman player from NCAA which makes a big difference I think. I got taken 2nd round 16th pick by The Bengals. I went through camp *****ing about the coaches everyday. They hated me I would be booed everytime I came on the field in the preseason. I am a QB and there was no opportunity for me in Cincy I had the same rating as Palmer an 84. As soon as the season started I demmanded a trade. I was dealt to Miami at that point my agent told me I was a nobody and had no right to demand a trade. So I fired him and took the starting job in Miami.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the best thing about the vision cone...

Precision passing! I felt like a real QB as I was tearing up my neighbor last night. Granted I stuck with quick routes since JP's cone isn't very wide at all. Being able to place the ball in the best position for the WR to catch it, make the passing game much more fun. It does take awhile to get use to but once you get it down, passing seems a lot easier.

I'd also suggest against moving the cone back and forth yourself. It takes a little to get use to but you can switch automatically to a receiver by holding down R2(ps2) and select the receiver. If you don't want the cone to lock on your primary receiver, you can also start out with the cone directly in the middle of the field by holding down R2 and pressing 'X' before the snap. (Locking on the primary receiver can be a good thing, especially against a human opp. who tends to cheat over to try to take advantage)

Willis is a beast on that game! He ended up with 163 yards rushing. I had over 60 yards after contact. He also broke through the inside untouched for a 83 yard TD. Once he was in the open field, even the secondary had a tough time trying to catch him.

The Bills offense stayed true to this year's style of play. I couldn't do crap passing until I started pounding the rock w/ Willis. Then a little playaction opened things up for me. Moulds is still the goto guy and ended up with over 100 yards receiving.

The D seems even better this year. As long as you have an agressive blitz scheme, they hold their own. I noticed when I tried to play the O straight up, my neighbor had enough time to make some decent gains against me. (PS2 switched the button config on D after the ball is snapped and on kickoff coverage. This took a little while to overcome.)

Special teams is what sets this team apart from last year! The boys were all over the field! I ran back a kickoff 95 yards w/McGee untouched. I almost had a punt return for a TD with Parrish also. He actually got chased down by a DB who ran a good angle. (They did give up a kickoff TD return but the truck stick had a say in that.)

Overall I wasn't really impressed with '06 in the beginning. I messed around and played a couple of games before my neighbor came over. There is so many new features that affect gameplay it's rediculous. Halfway through playing our game we both were completely consumed by it.

....He is going out and buying it today after work.

Playing a bs game where the opponent does nothing put pass pass pass is unrealistic and boring to me, its nothing like real NFL football, its more like NFL Blitz, fake and stupid. If you like fake and stupid repetitive boring unrealistic games, more power to you. I don't pretend to have any skills, since I've done it 5 times max online. Plus you can't control every defender on the field last time I checked and it's pretty easy to trick the AI defense.

Ever think that your oppoents might pass pass pass because your pass defense sucks sucks sucks? If you play all-madden mode, there's no way you can expect to throw bombs all day and win. You'll throw 5 picks and your WR's and or your QB will get hurt.

Maybe you should play more than 5 times to develop some skills before you pass the game off as stupid, fake and unrealistic.

I did Superstar mode as RB and was drafted in the 3rd round by the Panthers. I boosted myself up the depth chart so I started. I didn't realise I still had it on Rookie when i was playing around with all the new toys so I ended up winning like 133-0.

I haven't played a Madden game in like 3 years since this one.

I did franchise and simmed the Bills first year to see if they added anything to the offseason mode. Troy Vincent, Damion Shelton, and someone else ended up retiring (forgor who). I signed Ty Law to a 3 year deal, and at the end of the year franchised Travis and packaged him in with Law for the #1 pick in the draft, a 3rd and 5th rounder. I picked up Vincent's replacement with the #1 pick. Of course Takeo Spikes and Posey got injured in preseason, but within the first couple hours I got the game I was winning 100 something to 0 on pro. I'll try all-pro soon.

When I get used to everything else, I'll turn the vision cone on.

Seriously though, I think it's just a matter of keeping the game close to 'the game'.

Can you do a franchise with a fantasy draft like you could with 2k5? I loved doing that.

I still don't like this vision cone

I like to use Atlanta and have Vick roll out on every play with a run/pass option and cheese my opponents to death :snicker: This is kind of hindering that!!

I rented Madden yesterday. THANK GOD IT was a free rental. I popped in 2k5 after a couple games. Sigh, I really hoped it would be fun for me since there is no other choice in football games. I guess the XBOX 360 version is my last hope.
I am not a big fan of the Espn series. It isn't horrible but I am just used to Madden I guess.

My bad if this was posted in the first few pages but, Has anyone using the Ps2 had any slowdown or lag? Mainly after a play in franchise finishes it freezes for a sec or two. very annoying....

Other then that i rate the game a 10 improvement. Proof is i suck on all madden and last year i went 10-6 in first franchise. i'm 0-4. The Saints just beat the piss outta me. JP musta had 7 INT's. And Mcallister had 170 yards.
I managed 109 yards and my only TD with Willis. WM is a madden 06 BEAST..
I too was drafted by the Panthers in superstar. I went TE hoping the Bills would take me instead of Everett. Superstar mode is fun.. Like REALITY MADDEN lol...

Lots of interceptions. That's what I've noticed. My first game had 8 total between the two teams (threw 3 of them) and my next game had 6 (threw 2).

the game is sweet all concepts are nice but in a legit game vs a real opponent that is using a solid team losman is no where near good enough. hell bledsoe can see half the field apparently our boy according to ea is gonna have tunnel vision

I picked it up today for $50. The only reason why I bought it is because the far SUPERIOR SEGA version no longer has the license due to EA's greed. I haven't played it yet but I will be playing it tonight after I eat dinner and work out. (I play the Xbox version.)

Stampy, until i'm better with teh controls im holding r2 then hit the button of the primary reciever. <<pre-snap. then you dont have to worry about moving it..

-A safe play for using teh bills playbook is singleback trips, the 1st play down on the right. Moulds does a quick in and goes across the whole field. Parrish goes deep, Everett goes up then comeback, and Evans by himself over there does a short post. Evans route is a good bullet route if single coverage. but moulds is the primary...

Post the sweet plays in the Bills playbook.

-Oh yeah, I form, misdirection run still rocks. i get 130 yards a agme with willis but JP is fckn killing me. he sucks so bad that i don't wanna use him anymore.... But i will!!

this madden is the best in the last few years id say...finally a realistic passing game when you can actually hit the holes in the zone and after a few games you get used to the vision thing..passing is almost too easy now and ill have to go to all madden soon. (im badass like that)
i cant say enough about how cool it is to read the qb's eyes and when you are the qb, look off recievers and then lob one in the corner of the endzone for 6.

also, tackling and missed tackles have been way upgraded and i am very pleased with that. mcgahees stiff arm is almost as punishing as the real thing.

vick and scrambling qb's are finally not unstoppable.

best madden since the one with culpepper on the cover if you ask me.

I got it when it came out, and have one question about it. Is it important to do all the practices in SUperstar mode? You usually need 400 points at about 10 pts per play to get an "A", and you need an A to rank up I think. Also, will playing well in preseason games, and regular season games for that matter, rank up your guy?

Yes.

If you want to ace the practices just put a 5 wr shotgun set against fg block.

GREAT NEWS FOR EVERYONE PLAYING FRANCHISE :)---
Pick up Vinny Testaverde. his awareness is a 90 and he's a free agent.. His overall is only a 80 so he comes cheap :). he will most likely retire after this year anyways.. My plan is to use him now while im struggling. his vision cone rocks!!! 88 awareness vision cone (http://sports.ign.com/articles/634/634981p9.html)
Vinny is 2 points higher ..:) If your worried about "selling our/keping it real etc" don't be because after a full season i'm fully prepared to go with JP......

Welp, played it last night... not impressed. I'm reminded all over again why I switched over to the NFL2K SEGA series in the first place. Graphics aren't as good and I still don't like the gameplay. (I've played Madden since it was on the Genesis but stopped buying it when the first SEGA football game out on the Dreamcast.) EA hasn't done anything to improve this game except for adding in a couple of gimmicky modes like the Superstar and QB Vision features. It's nice to know that there no longer exists any competition to push them to improve their premium best-seller. Looks like I'll have to just accept its inferiority and continue to play it or spend a lot of time tweaking last years SEGA ESPN Football game.

I am finally starting to get the hang of the game. Evident by my improved passing efficiency and the newly formed calluses on my thumbs. I may actually graduate from the rookie level this weekend. That is if my wife lets me!

Zero competition hurts the product. Madden doesn't have to go "all out" making a great game since they're the only gig in town. I'm not surprised this Madden is so disappointing...

...or they could be putting all effort into Madden for Xbox 360...

Ha, yeah right! EA has already butted heads with Microsoft once already over Xbox Live. SEGA and other companies were taking EA's share of the sports market. I guess EA figured they'd be top dog and it'd be cheaper to just buy the NFL rights outright. I doubt that they're going to reinvent and improve their product since they can sell the same old coding again and again with no concerns over competition AND rake in the big bucks.

@#%* EA Sports! (It's NOT in the game.)
