All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
“You hold a players only meeting and get each guy to stand up and say what he can bring to the table... and if he doesn't, you punch him in the face.” ~~ Harry Neale, on how to fix the Sabres season.
As one who attends the Sharks games fairly regularly, I couldn't disagree more. I'm a Sabres fan that has lived in CA all of my life, but I've considered switching many times.
The Sharks are very different from the Sabres:
A) Fans go to the games---Win or lose.
B) Management keeps quality players around, or at least replaces them with capable replacements. When Nolan left SJ, the fans there thought the team gave up. They acquired Brad Boyes & Alyn McAuley, and fans were pissed. However, 2 years later, they earned 104 points (2nd in the West), and were almost at the Cup Final. When Buffalo loses Zhitnik and Satan, what do they do? Nothing. We shall see what the outcome of that is.
C) They make the playoffs! (Even though I already said that above, let's just drive the point home again)
There is a reason why SJ can afford not to sign free agents---They made the playoffs! They almost made the Cup Final without 2 of their star wingers in Sturm & Michalek. The Sabres aren't signing anyone.....and haven't made the playoffs since 2001. To compare the 2 is like comparing apples & oranges.
Did they chase expensive talent with minimal return, Like Brett Hull or Jeremy Roenick?
Did they overpay to retain good, but not exceptional talent?
Everyone treats the Sabres like they are the Los Angeles Clippers, for christ's sake. The Sharks are following almost the exact game plan that put the Sabres deep into the playoffs year after year during the Hasek years. They fell on rough times when their crook owner almost ran the team into the rocks. Had they had stable ownership the past 3 years this team wouldn't have had to let go most of their best players.
It looks to me the Sabres (Who had 4 less wins than the division winning Bruins) are again building this team with a solid base from the ground up.
Give the team a chance. Geesh. Or drink the poision kool aid now and get the misery over.
Give them a chance? Or give them 3 more years? They could have got great fast this offseason. Not by chasing expensive talent - but by adding great players. You may not believe this, but some of those FAs that were signed will be all-stars this season. Not all were over the hill.
The sabres now are worse then the last time they took the ice. Comparing them to that team is inaccurate.
