9:47 PT: The Houston Chronicle reports there is some speculation Houston Texans return specialist Jermaine Lewis, who will count $4.66 million against the salary cap in 2003, will be released by the team.

I like Rogers, but this guy is one of the best in the league.

I doubt it will happen because we do have Rogers, but if the price was right, I wouldn't mind having Lewis.

I'd say we just get rid of Rogers, and put Clements back there again - Clements can get the job done.

i think its too big of a risk to let clements return the kicks. Joe Burns would do just fine. he returned a kick to the 39 yard line during the season and i think it was his only try. Although i think giving it to clements on occasions isn't a bad idea.

I love the idea of possibly snagging Lewis if the Price is right. He could even play 3rd WR if Price is gone. Rogers hasn't done as much as expected and I don't remember him getting used on offense at all. Using Clements on returns isn't something I'm in favor of....I'd rather have him fresh for defense.

We could sign Flutie back to return kicks!

...then again, maybe we can sign him to tidy up the players' lockers while their playing the game...

Then we'd have J7 running onto the field to defend him whenever he gets tackled. :chuckle:

I don't think Lewis is a luxury that we can afford. There are too many other areas that need help to be spending 2-3 mil on a KR.

We're not gonna get Lewis, and I'm glad we won't be getting him - there are other better ways to spend our money this season.

I'm not convinced that the return guy is the reason for our mediocre return game. I'm not convinced our special teamers know how to block the way they ought to, or the schemes are the best they can be. In other words, Danny Smith gets my vote as the next coach who ought to be dismissed.

if he is cheap i would sign him.

Clements is great, but I would rather him be on punts, both is prolly too much.

There's no way that Lewis will come cheap. And I'm not all that impressed with Rogers either--he did take some pretty big hits on some returns, but I thought he was supposed to be explosive??

You cant be explosive when no one is blocking, MissB.

TypicalBill, Joe Burns returned a squib kick to the 39 yard line. And he had some other returns on the year that were the same result as most of Roger's returns.

I think its the ST blocking. Give Rogers one more year.

He was explosive until he came to Buffalo. He takes big hits because there's no blocking.

Lewis is way to expensive.

Give Charlie Rogers decent Special Teams blockers in front of him along with a decent special teams blocking scheme and he can be dangerous.

Ask the Vikings.

I noticed he got the snot knocked out of him later in the season, especially in the Pat's game. I would bet anyone would have been gun shy and beat up after that.

Isn't Rogers a free agent now
