Rookie Kyle Orton was in the weight room when he was summoned to coach Lovie Smith's office and given the news he expected to hear: He's the Chicago Bears' starting quarterback.
While Orton was promoted due to a strong performance in Friday's 16-12 exhibition win over Buffalo, struggling Chad Hutchinson was demoted all the way down the depth chart. http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2005/08/28/sports/s162015D23.DTL

Considering he looked good playing with the Bears starters against our backups on defense, I wonder how long it'll be until Blake is starting

It's about time. Now the question is: does Grossman have anything to be worried about?

That Orton dude did impress me, but like you said, he was in there with the scrubs.

I have seen all of the bears preseason games...Orton is the best QB on their roster that is healthy. They desparately need production from that position as they have the team to make the playoffs IMO...but not if their QB completely sucks which is what they are looking at. They might as well take a chance on a kid who has been stepping up to the plate already. If he looks really solid this week he's going to be the man on day one...otherwise they are going to be scrambling to get a veteran QB there somehow.

scrubs or not...Orton has played SOLID every time he was on the field. The kid seems on and he plays smart. That's not just an anomoly because he's playing against second and third stringers.

Agreed, hes definately been their best QB this preseason. He has impressed the hell out of me. He was a steal for them.

Orton is a steal! It will be intresting to watch him this season, perhaps he can challenge Grossman for starter QB next year?`

I liked Orton at Purdue. He was a steal in the 4th round.

However, Angelo has gone out of his way the last two years to make damn sure there was no QB controversy with his boy, Grossman. Well, when Grossman goes down, the cupboard is bare. He was damn lucky to have Orton fall into his lap at the draft.

Well, he sure would look good in aqua and corral, I didn't think he would be that good, but watching the games, the kid seems to have a future!

3 consecutive years of injury. Grossman would be lucky to land a job anywhere. After this season Orton is already more experienced I dont think Rex has a chance.

The sad part is that I think Grossman is a good QB. But if Orton succeeds, the job is his.
