Fullback Daimon Shelton has led the way for three 1,000-yard rushers.

Daimon Shelton has been a running back's best friend for most of his seven-year NFL career. Everywhere he goes, a 1,000-yard rusher is sure to follow.
Shelton is one of the league's most powerful blocking fullbacks, paving the way for Jacksonville's Fred Taylor, Chicago's Anthony Thomas and Buffalo's Willis McGahee to achieve 1,000-yard seasons.

"My role is to be primarily a lead blocker, and I take a lot of pride in what I do," Shelton said. "I've been fortunate to lead some great backs in the past and even in the present, so it's just a blessing all around."

The Bills obviously consider Shelton a blessing to their offense. That's why they recently gave him a contract extension that will keep him in Buffalo at least through 2006.

Shelton is scheduled to make $700,000 this season and $950,000 in '06, according the NFL Players Association's Web site.

"I'm definitely excited about it," Shelton said. "It feels good to be rewarded for your hard work and recognized for it. I'm excited. It gives me more motivation and reason to go out and work even harder."

Nice. But the Denney one bothers me a bit. What has he done to earn an extension? Except lose his job to Chris Kelsay. :snicker:

thinking about it, if Deeney is cheap, why not? He knows the defense, he can play either end and if they rotate him at DT on passing downs...if its close to min with a minimal bonus, do it.

Great.

Now we can re-sign Clements to a 7 year deal.

Exactly, he knows everything and is a solid back up. Plus he can play ST. I hope re resign Nate though, he is looking NASTY!!!!!!!

Denney's play has improved on ST. Did you see the play where he was one or the 1st ones down and made a tackle on the returner for a 5 yard loss? A 6'5, 275 lb guy being one of the 1st down...I thought that was pretty awesome!

Denney's play has also improved on defense. He covered a WR during a blitz and the WR was within the 5 yard "chuck zone" turned toward person covering him to make a move and had a look on his of "Oh Shuck!" realizing it was not a CB or LB covering him but a 6'7" DE. He did not get a catch.

As long as Denney is not looking for Shoebel money I am fine with it. It is not like he is riding the bench.

It's called having good depth is why you sign a guy like Denney.

Denney's a versatile player.....he can play DE, DT, TE, contribute on special teams. As long as the agent doesn't ask for the :moon: , no problem

Goldsberry is the heir apparent.

I think they extended him because Goldsberry can't block and won't keep him

If Denny is cheap it's worth it. He's not a good starter but a good backup.
