After more than a quarter century together, the Buffalo Sabres and Rochester Americans have agreed they should see other people.
The Sabres on Wednesday announced the Florida Panthers will help stock the Amerks this season. Buffalo will remain the parent club, while Florida has committed to supply eight to 10 prospects.
"This has the makings of a very entertaining and competitive roster," Amerks owner Steve Donner said.
The move was made out of necessity to keep the American Hockey League team competitive in hockey's brave new world.
