Old ladies

Do you know an old woman who is or was exceptional? What made her super woman?

Was she a bridge player, a member of a million clubs, involved in the community, the glue that held the family together?

What exactly made this woman what she was, or what was it about her that made uncle so and so, or grandpa so and so, or whoever, consider her the greatest woman on the planet?

What sort of things was she into?

My grandmother is a cool cat. She spoiled me when I was young. She doesn't play bridge but she does play Solitaire on her Windows 3.1 computer.

The thing that's awesome about her is that she is a bit senile in her old age. Sometimes she comes over to visit and will start singing Jingle Bells at the top of her lungs out of nowhere. Very amusing spectacle to observe.

my grandma came over here from Italy in 1897, and all she wanted to do was feed us grandkids so we would spend time with her. We had spaghetti every other day. She couldn't see very well out of one eye, and one time she cooked hot dogs and I didn't want one. So I carefully and quietly threw mine in the garbage when she wasn't looking. Seconds after I threw it away, she grabbed the garbage and took the hotdog out and yelled at me in Italian. After that I was pretty sure she was just faking the bad eye bit. She died in 1997, two weeks before her 100th bday. I miss my grandma.

I've known several old women and still know quite a few. Old ladies are the best.

My grandmas come to mind. My mom's mom died in 1993 at age 91. She made the best and I do mean the BEST chocolate chip cookies I have ever eaten. AND the best coconut cream pie. I have tried to emulate her, but will never, ever live up. She was also the kindest, most loving woman (besides my mom) you would ever meet. I remember once when my boss asked me and her to babysit their twins and 2 year old while they went on vacation for a week. We laughed so hard at the color scheme in their living room (everything was shades of blue - carpet, furniture, drapes, etc., etc.) !!! We laughed about that until the day she died. I miss her terribly. :(

My dad's mom died when she was 89. She worked side by side with us all in the hayfield into her late 60's, early 70's. I remember her candy bowl in the living room. She had these big pink candy mints that looked like HUGE pills. I loved them. Didn't care much for the white ones, but the pink ones were great. We used to go visit them after school and help move irrigation pipe (they didn't have the ones with wheels then). She'd give you the shirt off her back, but was NEVER short of an opinion. I miss her very much! :(

Then there was Mrs. Wilken down the road. My best friend up here for a very long time. She once made some sort of raisin dessert. I HATE raisins with a passion, but I choked it down. She used to call me up and and ask me if I had gotten company (meaning Jehova Witnesses), and I'd do the same for her. :D I miss her, too. :(

And, finally, there's Louise. She's still alive, but in a nursing home and her mind is gone. :( I really miss her. I used to have her on my route and when I got to her place I'd go visit her. She would make me sandwiches and iced tea. Me and the little guy went over a couple of summers ago and picked her beans for her because she couldn't get around very well. I don't go visit her nearly often enough. I'm terrible. :(

And of course, my mom and two aunts aren't all that young anymore. Mom's 69 and my aunts are older. Aunt Mary Lou would give you the shirt off her back - she'd do anything for anyone. And Aunt Alice is a big sweetheart, too.

My Grandmother died in the late Eighties, she was by far the wisest person I've ever meant. Came to this country in the late early 1900's from Hungary!

She was wise beyond her years! Kept our family structure together through thick and thin, after she passed it simply fell apart, said to say.
