    Lindell is fine

I fail to understand the hostility towards Rian Lindell, other than the fact that his name is spelled funny. Not only he does not suck, he's statistically one of the best kickers in the league.

    2004 Regular Season:

    From 20-29 yards - 13 for 14, 92.9%
    From 30-39 yards - 10 for 11, 90.9% (Top 10)
    From 40-49 yards - 1 for 3, 33.3% (OK not the best but it's only 3 tries)
Overall - 24 for 28, 85.7% (Top 8 for kickers with more than 3 FGs)

Who's that #8 spot better than? You'll be shocked:

    Jason Elam (85.3%)
    Mike Vanderjagt (80.0%)
    David Akers (84.4%)
    Jeff Reed (84.8%)
    Jeff Wilkins (79.2%)
    Nate Kaeding (80.0%)
    Steve Christie (78.6%)
    Paul Edinger (62.5%)
    Aaron Eiling (50.0%)
    John Hall (72.7%)

I don't hear Denver fans screaming to fire Jason Elam, or Philly looking to replace Akers.

That should put things in perspective for us. Lindell is fine. Spend the money on a LT instead.

I don't find him "fine", I find him rather unattractive.

His average is skewed because the Bills know he can't make kicks over 40 yards. So he does not even try. He also can't make pressure kicks (he had two last year and made neither). His kickoffs suck too.

We shall see. He hasn't exactly looked that great in preseason.

I know it's not something you should measure someone's performance from, but kicking is probably the easiest thing to replicate in preseason.

Two years ago he wasn't all that either. 17-24 which is about 70%.

We'll see! I hope he nails every kick!

I agree with Lector... how many kicks did they try over 40 last year? VERY FEW. This is a case where stats don't tell the full story... Wys anyone?

I think of it another way, I think the coaches feeling is they have one of the best punters in the league. Why not punt and pin the opposing team instead of taking a risk at a long field goal.

I'm not saying Lindell is an elite kicker like Akers and Vinatieri. No way. But he sure is waaaaaay better than chumps like Eiling and Todd "whodat" France.

Now if Vinatieri wanted to sign with us, I'd have no problem with that...

Lindell is the Rob Johnson of kickers (minus the injuries). If you look at the stats, he's fine. If you watch him play, he sucks.

A kicker should be counted on to be able to hit a FG under 50 yards with some consistancy. The only thing consistant about Lindell is that his coaches have consistantly not let him kick field goals longer than 45 yards, if not shorter.

That's right. People always forget that. And he's what, 3 of 4 outside the 45 in preseason, something like that. He's been stung with a couple of key misses for the Bills, but he's definitely a solid* kicker.

Now that he's been consistently kicking longer he might have finally found his groove for distance. If so it could be his best season. We'll see.
