Which QB will eventually be the 2nd stringer on opening day?

I say Travis steals it away. There are more and more reports coming out about how much Williams likes him. I just hope travis gets a shot at it. AVP hasn't looked good so far this preseason...

We'll know more as the preseason progresses.

vp is a leader...you need him at # 2 til bledsoe proves himself in the regular season...i think travis will take over #2 half way through season....

ill say TB by mid-season

I'm thinking TB when its all said an done but prior to game one is a little early.

BTW - Who holds on FG's and PAT's. That may be the factor of who gets activaled as the "official" backup. That's what is happening for the Giants (at least right now). Garrett will be the backup becuase he is the holder.

Agree with ES. You said opening day. As long as they feel the Bills have a chance to go anywhere (like early in the season if Drew gets hurt), AVP is the guy. If it's for mopping up later in the year, Brown is the guy.

Say what you want about VP, but he's probably one of the worst QBs playing in the league right now. Great guy, silent leader type, but he's not good as a QB. The only reason he's even still on the team is that he's been a very quiet backup through all of the comotion of recent years.

He's grossly overpaid at his $5M/5 yr. deal. We won't cut him b/c the cap hit is too great, but Travis will be the #2. Van Pelt hasn't even shown that he belongs in this league in T.C. I saw it myself. Honestly, I could have thrown better passes. Yes, really!

TRAVISSSSSS!!!!!

He wouldn't miss a beat if Drew goes down...

If Drew were to go down, one game like VP played last year and he won't last more than that game. He was terrible last year, he's generally been terrible prior to that other than coming in for partial games. He's been his absolute worst this training camp.

I see nothing to indicate that he's not on the bubble other than we really don't have a bonafide #3 and his bonus is too great.

I thought AVP played pretty well last year. I didn't think he was terrible at all besides the game in SF. Still, I think TB is becoming the better quarterback and I hope he wins the job.

AVP on opening day but I wouldn't be surprised that if the Bills are down in games near the end of the season that TB doesn't get some playing time.

i think avp is a suitable backup....we're not talking backing up rj here...this is durable bledsoe (knock on wood)

I'd like to see TB but I think they'll start the season with AVP as the #2 because I think that he currently would be better supporting the player on the field (i.e. in meetings discussing the game plan or talking to the staff on the sideline during games) simply due to his experience. However, if DB gets a serious injury and misses a few games, I think TB is the guy they'll eventually send in. Besides, TB could still improve some over the rest of his career and may end up being a borderline starter. AVP has pretty much reached his peak and is no way starter material, so I'd rather try and develop a younger player.

exactly!

remember kelly;s hof speach? he said how important it was having recih as his player coach off the fields and backing him up...van pelt fits that role perfectly...

Great post, BillsNYC.....Alex has proven himself in this league...Travis hasn't even played a full game....RJ looked even better after one full game in the league so people are really jumping to conclusions about the guy.

Alex Van Pelt is far superior to Travis Brown.
