    Bears' Colvin has shoulder surgery

Bears strong-side linebacker Rosey Colvin may not be quite as hot a commodity on the free-agent market this off-season as he had anticipated.

Colvin underwent surgery on his left shoulder Tuesday to repair a chronic subluxation, a partial dislocation of the joint. The shoulder occasionally pops out of the joint but returns to its normal position.

Colvin, an unrestricted free agent as of March 1, has had the problem since he was at Purdue, but it became worse this season and required him to wear a harness at times.

The surgery is designed to tighten and stabilize the shoulder area, but it requires 4-5 months of rehabilitation. That means it's unlikely he will participate in the first minicamp wherever he does wind up.
