Sabres sign McKee to one-year deal

TSN has learned that the Buffalo Sabres and restricted free agent defenceman Jay McKee have agreed to a one-year, $1.6-million contract for the upcoming season.

McKee, 28, was a first-round pick of the Sabres in 1995 and has been with the organization ever since. He has 82 points and a plus-45 rating in 507 career games.

Well that means McKee will be gone next year. I can't imagine who they are going to replace him with.

Oh come on guys. Don't be so down. We all know the Sabres will be a HUGE player in free agency next year . You just wait and see. They really have shown a commitment to winning the stanley cup in my opinion. Remember that 3 year plan they had when Golisano bought the team? That third year will be the 06-07 season!

It's sad to see the team wasn't willing to commit a longer deal to McKee, but I can understand (In some ways) where they were coming from. Jay hasn't exactly been a pillar of good health these past years.
