    ESPN WEEKLY NFL POWER RANKINGS!

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/powerr...on=2005&week=1

    2005 Power Rankings: Week 1
    RK (LW)TEAMRECCOMMENT
1 (1)Patriots14-2-0The Patriots are really going to miss Tedy Bruschi. He often is cited as the Pats' leader on defense, which is true. But what sometimes gets lost in that description is that he's also one of the best LBs in the NFL.
2 (3)Colts12-4-0It's unclear how quickly he'll be able to contribute, but Corey Simon could end up being a huge addition. As good as the Colts are on offense, they only need to get a little better on D to make a huge impact.
3 (2)Eagles13-3-0It's been a tumultuous offseason for the Eagles, but they still have to be considered the favorites in the NFC.
4 (4)Vikings8-8-0Daunte Culpepper is a stud, but it's still legitimate to wonder how big an impact Randy Moss' departure will have on him.
5 (5)Steelers15-1-0The Steelers and QB Ben Roethlisberger have struggled some on offense in the preseason. While it's just the preseason, some folks in Pittsburgh are starting to get a little edgy.
6 (6)Falcons11-5-0Opening against the Eagles on Monday night in prime time is great and all, but Falcons have lost 14 of their past 16 games on MNF.
7 (8)Chargers12-4-0The Chargers are a bit of a mystery, and most of it centers around Drew Brees. Is he the QB who threw 27 TDs and just seven INTs last season, or is he the guy the Chargers were ready to send packing before last year's campaign.
8 (7)Ravens9-7-0The Ravens have given Kyle Boller some weapons to work with (signing WR Derrick Mason, drafting WR Mark Clayton and naming Jim Fassel offensive coordinator). Now he needs to perform.
9 (9)Jets10-6-0The Jets need Chad Pennington at the top of his game if they're going to make a run at the Patriots this year.
10 (10)Panthers7-9-0The Panthers want to be a running team, but that doesn't mean you should overlook Jake Delhomme. Check out his numbers from last year: 3,886 yards and 29 TDs. That's pretty good.
11 (15)Broncos10-6-0Mike Shanahan doesn't care if fantasy owners don't know who is going to get the bulk of the yards rushing, He just cares if the Broncos are in the top 5 in rushing at the end of the season.
12 (21)Rams8-8-0Want a fantasy player to watch this year? Try Rams wide receiver Kevin Curtis. He had 25 catches in the second half last season and 11 more in two playoff games.
13 (11)Chiefs7-9-0Fantasy players who have Priest Holmes have to be getting a little nervous (even those who have Larry Johnson, too). Johnson won't get as many carries as Holmes, but it's pretty clear he is going to get some of them, even when Holmes is healthy.
14 (19)Bills9-7-0J.P. Losman has the talent, but there is going to be a lot of pressure on him to get the Bills off to a good start.
15 (13)Seahawks9-7-0Last year the Seahawks were the trendy pick to make a Super Bowl run. Maybe flying under the radar a little bit heading into this year will suit them better?
16 (14)Jaguars9-7-0The Jaguars need Reggie Williams to step up in his second season and be a legitimate No. 2 receiver.
17 (18)Packers10-6-0He might be getting a little gray around the temples, but you can pretty much pencil Brett Favre in for 30 TDs and 3,600 yards.
18 (16)Bengals8-8-0With Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson and Rudi Johnson, the Bengals should be a fun team to watch on offense. Now, if you could just say the same about the defense.
19 (12)Cowboys6-10-0The caveat (and isn't it true for everyone in the NFL?) is that he has to stay healthy, but Julius Jones sure looks like a fantasy stud in the making.
20 (20)Saints8-8-0It's hard to talk about football with the Saints. All we can really say is that our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the Gulf Coast, and please help them out in any way you can.
21 (22)Cardinals6-10-0The Cardinals are a popular pick to make a big jump forward. But that's not going to happen unless Kurt Warner is better than the guy we've seen over the past three seasons.
22 (24)Texans7-9-0Entering their fourth year, it's time for the Texans and David Carr to make a serious playoff run.
23 (23)Raiders5-11-0The defense needs to be better for the Raiders to be a playoff threat, but one things is certain -- the offense will be fun to watch. And isn't that's how it's supposed to be with the Raiders?
24 (17)Lions6-10-0Jeff Garcia's injury probably takes some pressure off Joey Harrington, but the fourth-year QB still has to perform.
25 (25)Giants6-10-0In Peyton Manning's second season, his QB rating jumped from 71.2 to 90.7. Can Eli make a similar improvement for the Giants? If so, they could make a surprise playoff run in the weak NFC.
26 (29)Redskins6-10-0The defense should be good again, but Joe Gibbs has to find a way to get more out of the offense, and that starts with the QB position.
27 (30)Titans5-11-0The schedule makers didn't do a young team any favors with a brutal opening stretch: at Pittsburgh, vs. Baltimore, at St. Louis, vs. Indy, at Houston.
28 (27)Buccaneers5-11-0Watch Cadillac Williams. The rookie is going to get the opportunity to do a lot of things in Jon Gruden's offense.
29 (26)Bears5-11-0This isn't necessarily a consensus opinion among our panel, but with a good defense and solid running game, the Bears might not be in as bad shape as people thought when Rex Grossman got hurt.
30 (28)Dolphins4-12-0So Gus Frerotte beat out A.J. Feeley. We're not exactly sure how Dolphins fans should feel about that.
31 (31)Browns4-12-0Romeo Crennel will make the Browns better. But the talent is just not there to expect much more than the four wins the Browns had in 2004.
32 (32)49ers2-14-0Starting Tim Rattay is smart if Alex Smith isn't ready. But as soon as Smith is, it makes sense for the 49ers to get him on the field.

    2005 Power Rankings: Week 2
    RK (LW)TEAMRECCOMMENT
1 (1)Patriots1-0-0That Patriots defensive line is just scary. And what makes it even scarier is that all four of their starters are 26 or younger.
2 (2)Colts1-0-0Is the defense really that much better or is Baltimore's offense just that bad? Probably a little bit of both.
3 (5)Steelers1-0-0Willie Parker, say hello to fantasy football players all over the world.
4 (6)Falcons1-0-0It's just one week, but any jump the Falcons can get on the Eagles in the NFC is huge.
5 (3)Eagles0-1-0The Eagles obviously missed Jeremiah Trotter, but this loss was more about the offense than the loss of Trotter.
6 (13)Chiefs1-0-0If they both stay healthy, Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson are both going to run for more than 1,000 yards.
7 (16)Jaguars1-0-0Think the Jaguars are happy they didn't release Jimmy Smith this offseason?
8 (19)Cowboys1-0-0It's just one week, but Cowboys fans (and Bill Parcells) have to be pretty excited about the start of the Drew Bledsoe era.
9 (14)Bills1-0-0The Bills need to score in the red zone, but that said, the folks in Buffalo have to be pretty happy about the balance the offense displayed in Week 1's win.
10 (20)Saints1-0-0The Saints might have replaced the Cowboys as America's Team.
11 (7)Chargers0-1-0Think the Chargers could have used Antonio Gates at the end of their loss to the Cowboys? First-and-goal from the 7 and they couldn't find a way to get it in the end zone.
12 (18)Bengals1-0-0The big three in Cincinnati -- Carson Palmer (280 yards), Rudi Johnson (126 yards), and Chad Johnson (nine catches) -- got the season off to a good start.
13 (4)Vikings0-1-0So, that whole they'll be better without Randy Moss thing didn't get off to a great start, huh?
14 (10)Panthers0-1-0With one loss under their belts, the Patriots coming into town, and Kris Jenkins done for the season again, it's looking a lot like the beginning of last season for the Panthers.
15 (8)Ravens0-1-0The defense did its job against Peyton Manning, but the offense just couldn't get anything going. That might be a familiar issue in Baltimore this year.
16 (24)Lions1-0-0He didn't light the world on fire, but getting a win in Week 1 was what was really important for Joey Harrington.
17 (25)Giants1-0-0There was a lot of buzz around Brandon Jacobs in the preseason and based on Week 1, he looks worthy of it.
18 (9)Jets0-1-0Wow. We're not surprised the Jets lost to the Chiefs (KC is a tough place to open). But to lose the way they did? Couldn't have been a very happy flight back to New York.
19 (28)Buccaneers1-0-0Cadillac Williams certainly lived up to his nickname in his first NFL game.
20 (11)Broncos0-1-0A 34-10 Week 1 loss to the Dolphins couldn't have been part of Mike Shanahan's master plan for the 2005 season.
21 (12)Rams0-1-0The road is not friendly to the Rams and guess what? They're travel to Arizona on Sunday, where it figures to be somewhere north of 100 degrees.
22 (15)Seahawks0-1-0Matt Hasslebeck has had plenty of ups and downs in his career and Week 1 in Jacksonville was one of the downs.
23 (30)Dolphins1-0-0Nick Saban said after the Dolphins' opener that the win wasn't about him. Uh, we're not so sure about that Nick.
24 (23)Raiders0-1-0The Randy Ratio didn't work for Daunte Culpepper, so it would be in Kerry Collins' best interest to look for some other targets.
25 (17)Packers0-1-0Add Javon Walker's injury to Sunday's three-point outing and there are some pretty nervous folks up in Green Bay right now.
26 (26)Redskins1-0-0Didn't take long for the quarterback shuffle to start in Washington.
27 (21)Cardinals0-1-0It was just one week, but that sure didn't look like the team everyone was picking as a surprise division winner.
28 (32)49ers1-0-0We're betting the 49ers' win over the Rams put a quick end to a lot of people's chances to win their elimination pools.
29 (22)Texans0-1-0When your No. 1 WR catches three passes for 18 yards, your No. 1 RB rushes for 48 yards and your QB only throws for 70 yards, it's going to be a very long day.
30 (27)Titans0-1-0It's certainly not unexpected, but it looks like 2005 could be a really long year in Tennessee.
31 (29)Bears0-1-0That might not be the last 9-7 game the Bears play this season.
32 (32)Browns0-1-0If Trent Dilfer is throwing the ball 43 times in a game, that's usually not a good thing.

That's gay, the Cowboys and Jags jumped ahead of us even though we were ranked higher then them, and we won.

Re: ESPN WEEKLY NFL POWER RANKINGS!

What is with ESPN and the eagles?

Why are the eagles considered so good, when they have the most overrated offense in the league.

Position by position Buffalo has an equal offense to Phily, and on Defense if it is not even as well, then ours is better.

McNabb is so overrated its scary, am I the only one that hears about how he is inaccurate when hes scrambling?

Am I the only one that sees him over and underthrow receivers CONSTANTLY.

Am I the only one that sees him blaming the other players when he throws at their feet and they dont catch it?

The problem is that he is all hype, and he believes that garbage whole-heartedly.

Most analysts place him and Cullpepper right behind Brady and Manning.....But the gap between them is HUGE.

Minnesota loses and they fall a dozen spots, eagles lose and look pitiful on offense and they are still top 5?

The Chiefs looked great and would MOP the field with Philedelphia, yet are ranked behind them.

If Phily went to Miami, the fins would crush them as well.

Atlanta is good, but they are good FOR AN NFC TEAM.

Neither Atlanta nor Phily could win an AFC conference. They would be wildcards in ANY AFC CONFERENCE.

I wouldn't say our offense is equal to that of the Eagles. We have a great RB, but McGahee is not the receiving threat that Westbrook is. And say what you want, but T.O. is in the top 3 receivers in the NFL, and if he came to Buffalo he would easily be our #1 receiver. McNabb may make bad decisions and bad throws, but to say that JP compares to McNabb makes no sense to me. As for their defense, I would say we are better overall. But I think we also wouldn't mind if Dawkins or Kearse were on our team.

And "If Philly went to Miami the Fins would crush them." Get real. The NFC is weaker, but Atlanta and Philly are not pushovers. At least, not enough that they would get "crushed" by the Dolphins.

By the way, the Chargers were at Home, not on the road. To place the Cowboys ahead of the Eagles, is something I don't agree with. Bledsoe is gonna get to know Mr. Kearse very well this season. The EAGLES are the one who lost on the road to a top 10 team (according to your list) by only 4 points. I'm not tryin to sound like I'm on Philly's jock, but their defense is strong and will be a force in the NFL. Also, I'm not tryin to blast you Tasker, just tryin to show a different view, thats all.

Henson? I can easily think of 3 others who could do better....Ready?

                      1. Tony Romo

                      2. Bill Parcells

                      3. Leon Lett / Nate Newton

I thought they lost at home as well, it's still a home loss which is never good.

It was a home loss and losing at the buzzer means the other team scores at the buzzer to beat you, not missing a score at the end. Just a FYI

It is hard to really judge after one week though.

We'll it really depends on who is beating you and how you played. Just because the bills only won by 15, it really was a big thumping. The score doesn't neccesarily show how well things really went. I can almost assure you that no other NFL team was held to 120 total yards this past sunday or normally. Let's remember too that Houston is considered to be a potential playoff team. Carr commented that he has NEVER seen a defense like ours & it's the most helpless he has ever felt, since he was a child. Everything they tried our D was there to stop it.

I really think that the Bills are a angry, determined bunch, talented bunch and to be brutally honest I would like it no other way. Carr had no mercy all day, not one bit. Every game I expect the Bills opponents QB's to feel the same way. We might not win everygame but the next time you play your opponent they are going to be thinking oh man I am going to get beat up here. People don't look forward to a good beating up, ever.

I found out that ~240 was the next lowest total output, amazing.
