    SAN ANTONIO TAILGATING & TRANSPORTATION

The room block is filling up fast at The Holiday Inn on the RIVERWALK – Rate is $99. You must call 210-224-2500 and ask for Buffalo Bills rate (not online). When they’re gone the hotel will be sold out.

    Bills Fan Parties:
    1. Pre-game get-together: Saturday from 4pm to 6pm in the Holiday Inn (Riverwalk) bar. Drink specials and snacks – ALL ARE WELCOME (not just hotel guests).

    2. Game Day Tailgate:
Since we can’t plan a tailgate at the Alamodome (parking is too limited), the Holiday Inn has offered us a large, free room for overflow off their bar. I’ve visited the location and it’s perfect for a get-together. They will put on drink specials and snacks (we can also bring some extra snacks). It’s also right next to their restaurant for anyone who wants to eat healthy. ALL ARE WELCOME – the Holiday Inn wants to be the official Bills Fan Hotel for that weekend. We can put up banners and bills decorations.

The bar will open at least 4 hours before the start of the game (yes, even at 8am if we have a noon game).

    Transportation:
From the airport to the Holiday Inn Riverwalk: Taxi is around $20. Downtown shuttle is $12. Metro bus is $2 - Route 2 and get off at Pecan/Main St. stop (2 blocks from hotel)

To the game: walking is 9/10 of a mile – but it may be very hot that day. The streetcar stop (yellow route) is two blocks from the hotel and goes to the dome. It runs every 10 minutes. Eighty cents. www.viainfo.net/Ride/streetcar.aspx
Or group together and cab it.

Please help get the Tailgate info out to other Bills fans coming to San Antonio for the game.

Extras: The San Antonio Riverwalk is a great place to visit. You can look at the available attractions at www.sanantoniocvb.com.

If you want to soak up some real “Texas” atmosphere, go to Steers & Beers or Texas Land & Cattle – both on the Riverwalk and have great steak. For seafood….Landrys. For Tex Mex…almost anywhere.

Also, try to get over to Buckhorn Saloon & Hall of Horns – it’s amazing. And to soak up some local flavor – Market Square. Of course, you’ll want to visit the Alamo, and for a good story of the Alamo, catch the Imax Theater showing of “Alamo – the Price of Freedom (next to the Marriott on the Riverwalk)

    Have fun!!

Game starts at noon central time.

The Holiday Inn (Riverwalk) bar will open at 8am for a Bills fan tailgate. They'll offer drink specials and snacks. We'll also bring some extra snacks to put out.

That hotel is now sold out.

      Courtyard San Antonio Downtown/Market Square - 139 a night.

I was worried all the hurricane refugees would be taking up the rooms. in San Antonio.

Diane (Aussiegirl) has been working on tailgate for New Orleans for months and when game switched to San Antonio she went there IN PERSON to arrange this tailgate and hotel special.

If USAir was not so unreasonable (credit only, Over $150 MORE to go to San Antonio) I'd be going too.

P.S. Last time I checked Choice (Comfort Inn, Quality, etc) had rooms available even some which were obtainable via frequent staye points and it is nearby (staggering distance).

So do I (wish you and I could make it). I am blaming USAir for I could have gotten RT tickets for ~$200 if they gave me back my money.

The Bills are even promoting Aussie's package in mail to subscribers.

She must have done a pretty good job - damn US Air.

Re: SAN ANTONIO TAILGATING & TRANSPORTATION

Welcome to Texas - the "anti-tailgating" state.

I just got a call from the Holiday Inn late yesterday because they were just notified that they could open the bar early on Sunday morning, but they couldn't sell alcohol before 10am.(Texas state law) So, we've had to make some last minute changes.

There'll be a sign in the hotel lobby that says "Bills Fan storage area" and a room number. I'll have a small fridge & a couple of empty coolers there with ice in case any Bills fans want to store some adult beverages overnight. I've reserved a small suite to have the additional room for more space.

Ripples Bar and Bodega Area at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk:

Saturday night Bills party 4pm to 6pm. Drink specials, Free snacks: Buffalo wings, chips/salsa, Quesadillas.
                      Long necks $2, Margaritas $2, Cocktails $3

Sunday AM 8:30am (all day) drink specials:
The bar will be open for merriment, hugs, high fives, beads and re-living all the great Bills games.....but no alcohol until 10am.

Drink Specials for the entire day (can anyone say "Victory Party"?)
                      Longnecks $2.50
                      Margaritas $3
                      Cocktails $3
                      Jumbo 20oz Screwdrivers & Bloody Marys $5

Food: Assorted deli croissant sandwiches/chips $4.99
or eat breakfast in the restaurant.

I will be there with a group of 6.

I have a few extra tickets if anyone needs them.

Thanks again Aussie Girl. I hope you like drinking "Irish Car bombs". I do.
