While we are still over 2 weeks away from the first deadline to cut the roster, I thought it would be interesting to look over the current 80+ man roster and to make a guess at who will stay and who will go. "The Turk" will be lurking in the Bills' locker room. "Son, hand in your play book" will be followed by thoughts from those who survive the cut of "Dead man walking."
This is how I predict the roster will shape up on opening day, barring any major injuries:
QBs:- Drew Bledsoe, Alex Van Pelt, and Travis Brown are lead pipe locks.
David Dinkins will probably end up on IR, and hopefully wind up in NFL Europe next season, actually playing QB instead of shagging kickoffs. David Priestley goes back to Beverly Hills 90210. He's purely a warm body in case of injury.
WRs- Eric Moulds, Peerless Price, and Josh Reed are a given. It gets a bit cloudy after that. Charles Johnson is showing something in camp early making tough catches and delivering leadership. I say he sticks at #4. The final roster spot comes courtesy of a tough break to Reggie Germany and the micro-fractures in his knee. He will spend 2002 on IR. That leaves the #5 spot battle between a gaggle of mediocre and/or unknown rookies.
It all comes down to a hernia and a hit and run. Jeremy McDanial has squatters rights to the last spot, but offseason hernia surgery has kept him out of the first week of training camp. Rodney Wright, Buffalo's 7th rd draft pick, had a very good shot but he ran afoul of the law and put him on the wrong side of management. Wright has made a number of good catches in camp and so far, has earned my vote for the #5 receiver. Maurice Jackson, Delrico Fletcher, Reggie Allen, and Andre Rone don't make the squad. Maybe one of the final 4 mentioned get a practice squad spot. ....MORE...
