Who's going to fool ''The Turk''

    Another Zone Original!

    Keep 'em coming, guys!!!

    ======================

    By: Bill Choinski

While we are still over 2 weeks away from the first deadline to cut the roster, I thought it would be interesting to look over the current 80+ man roster and to make a guess at who will stay and who will go. "The Turk" will be lurking in the Bills' locker room. "Son, hand in your play book" will be followed by thoughts from those who survive the cut of "Dead man walking."

This is how I predict the roster will shape up on opening day, barring any major injuries:

QBs:- Drew Bledsoe, Alex Van Pelt, and Travis Brown are lead pipe locks.

David Dinkins will probably end up on IR, and hopefully wind up in NFL Europe next season, actually playing QB instead of shagging kickoffs. David Priestley goes back to Beverly Hills 90210. He's purely a warm body in case of injury.

WRs- Eric Moulds, Peerless Price, and Josh Reed are a given. It gets a bit cloudy after that. Charles Johnson is showing something in camp early making tough catches and delivering leadership. I say he sticks at #4. The final roster spot comes courtesy of a tough break to Reggie Germany and the micro-fractures in his knee. He will spend 2002 on IR. That leaves the #5 spot battle between a gaggle of mediocre and/or unknown rookies.

It all comes down to a hernia and a hit and run. Jeremy McDanial has squatters rights to the last spot, but offseason hernia surgery has kept him out of the first week of training camp. Rodney Wright, Buffalo's 7th rd draft pick, had a very good shot but he ran afoul of the law and put him on the wrong side of management. Wright has made a number of good catches in camp and so far, has earned my vote for the #5 receiver. Maurice Jackson, Delrico Fletcher, Reggie Allen, and Andre Rone don't make the squad. Maybe one of the final 4 mentioned get a practice squad spot. ....MORE...

Overall I like that analysis... here are some changes I would add.
The fifth WR is not manditory if nobody impresses since we have Rogers to play as WR#5
I doubt that both Husley and Pucillo make the team...
I think Kendrick Office also makes the team... I dont know about Flowers - Im not sold on him being out yet.
I think that our backup LBs are Polk, Jones, and a FA that we are yet to sign.
I think we sign a fifth CB (free agency)

that brings it back up to 53... any suprise additions push out a DL that does not perform, or removes CB #5 from the equation

Throw a blanket over the DL- only Pat Williams and Schoebel are clear cut starters. Everyone else has something to prove.

Great front-page analysis by Dozerdog on the potential roster - now its time for everyone else's two cents!

I am in agreement on almost all of Bill Choinski's picks except for a few itmes:

            1. I think the player mix will be almost identical to last year's. Dozer has 5 wide-outs plus Rodgers as a return specialist. This takes depth away from other positions - Rodgers has shown that he can play reciever when needed. I see him taking the 5th spot from McDaniel and the second tier rookies, one of whom makes the Practice squad. McDaniel is simply not a good enough special teams player to hold the 5th spot.

            2. We keep 9 defensive linemen - the same mix as last year. Kendrick Office makes the team. Bryce Fisher has not show much and will be shown the door. Lief Larsen hangs on - we need beef in the middle.

            3. James Cotton displaces Fred Jones IF he shows enough on special teams.

            4. 5 corners and 4 safties - just like last year. None of our safties are good enough cover men to change the mix. Tillman is on the bubble. Too soon to say who the 5th corner will be.

            That's it!

Any similarities to last season's rosters are purely coincidental.

I never referenced it for the article! The only rescource I used other than my own observations of the scrimmage, and various press and Zone camp reports was the Ourlad's depth chart found on our front page. (Mostly for spelling..)

the 46 relies on attacking safeties... and with a porus DL, would result in our safties involved in a lot of tackles... thus more injury ridden. So, I added the extra DB.

I'm more convinced than ever that Price is gone after this season unless he explodes- AND wants to stay as the second bannana... not likely. So, with Rookie Reed , I say the Bills retain an extra reciever to develop replacements for Price and Possibly Germany if the Knee is not repairable.

No way Maurice Jackson gets cut...

Replace Donahoe with Modrak and fire the entire coaching staff!

                Then let's go to Disneyworld!
