Names surface as to possible coaching replacements

"Empire Sports Network and WNSA have learned of three names tied to possible openings with the Bills coaching staff. Current Jacksonville Jaguars Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator John Pease is a possible candidate for the team's defensive line coach but is still under contract with the Jaguars. Also under contract is Paul Alexander of the Cincinnati Bengals. Alexander is currently the Bengals offensive line coach and has been mentioned for the same position with Buffalo. Both Jacksonville and Cincinnati are looking for a new head coach so Pease and Alexander may be available in the near future. Kevin Ramsey, who was not retained by the Arizona Cardinals defensive backs coach, is also a candidate to join the Bills staff."

Alexander came up before but the other guys are new. Anybody know anything about any of these guys?

Pease has worked for Coughlin for the last 8 years. He was the DL coach before being promoted to DC/Asst. HC in 2001. Prior to that he was with the Saints for 9 years as a DL coach under Jim Mora. He followed Mora to New Orleans after coaching DL on his staff in the USFL for 3 years with the Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars. He was a college assistance coach for 13 years prior to that, at Washington (1978-1983), Utah (1977), Long Beach State (1974-1976) and Fullerton (CA) J.C. (1970-1973). He played collegiately at Utah from 1963-1964 as a Wingback. He is a Pittsburgh native.

Ramsay was the DC and secondary coach for the Georgia Bulldogs under Jim Donnan starting in 1999, before being fired and replaced in 2000. He then got a job as an intern for the Vikings before being hired in Arizona as secondary coach in 2001. Prior to that he was a college assistant coach at Kansas State (1986-1990), Northwestern (1990-92), West Virginia (1993-94) and Tennessee (1995-98). He has primarily been a secondary coach. He played defensive back at Indiana State from 1979-1983. He is from St. Louis.

Pease looks as if he has plenty of experience. He probably would be a good addition to our staff. Hopefully he becomes available. Thanks for the info itsandthings.

Ramsey's pedigree is a little iffy, but Pease sounds like just the kind of guy who could help. He's got tons of experience but he doesn't sound like a fossil. Doing the calculations, he sounds like he's in his late 50s

I think Pease has the experience and tools necessary to mold our DL into a very good unit. Plus, while Ramsey's background is a bit shady, don't forget, he coached Champ Bailey at Georgia, and look what he's turned into.

Ramsay arrived at Georgia in 1999, which was the year after Champ (incidently, Bailey's real name is Roland) Bailey left.

In the 2 Years Ramsay coached DB's at Georgia, the better players they had in the secondary were guys like Jeff Harris, Jamie Henderson, Tim Wansley, Jermaine Phillips and Terreal Bierria. All those guys were drafted, although all were Day-2 picks.
