Think his coaching foray will be a success?

he is going to be a great coach. not only will he get the utmost respect from his players, since he's played the game like no one else, but he also knows the game pretty well. he might not have a great first season considering the team he's got, but at the end of his coaching career, it will be viewed as a success.

im in phoenix now (moved recently) and no way on earth he does good. he doesn't come to the practices (lets his assistents coach them). He doesn't even submit the lineup cards correctly (that cost them a game).

And he doesn't even make the line changes.

that team is run by it's assistent coaches, gretzky is just a figurehead being used to lure fans into the stadium. this will be a one year thing, as it's clear he has no interest in ACTUALLY coaching.

Exactly. I'm asking now before there's any pre-conceived notions.

Gretzky:

Greatest offensive machine
Terrible defense player
Wimp

Don't be fooled by the numbers...Not the greatest total player ever that was proven when Messier won two cups without him. Messier and Francis were better overall players. The league chages it's rules just to comform to Gretzky's style...had he entered the league in the 90s he never would have had the success he did...other players wouldn't have laid off him...the guy was never checked.
