    Linebackers Clemons and McDonald declare

Its on the fron page in the "College and Draft News" section on the right. They state that TCU LB LaMarcus McDonald and Georgia LB Chris Clemons have declared for the NFl draft.

Anyone have any info on these two guys?

    Lamarcus McDonald Notes-

LB LaMARCUS McDONALD leads Conference USA in tackles for loss (28), is fifth in total tackles (113) and is tied for second in sacks (10). -

LaMarcus McDonald, TCU (LB): Technically a senior, but as a partial qualifier he could have gotten another year in school. Talented player who's a likely day 1 pick.
was Conf. -USA Performer of the Year

McDonald is a gifted athlete who sustains a high intensity level. A Derrick Brooks-type, he covers from sideline-to-sideline.

Rated #61st best player on the Huddle report

A pre-season all-conference and All-America candidate... one of 64 players selected to the “Watch List” for the Bronko Nagurski Award, given to the nation’s top defensive player... possesses natural instinct and is seemingly always around the ball... has great quickness making him difficult to block... has made 113 career tackles, including 28 tackles for loss and seven sacks in two seasons... has made 11 career starts.

      LaMarcus McDonald-Texas Christian University

      (6-1, 230, estimated 4.72 40 time)

2001 Season Stats: 11 games, 84 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 5 passes broken up, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 forced fumble

Positives: Is a good athlete with excellent quickness. Displays solid instincts and has a nose for the football. Emerged as a legitimate playmaker in 2001.

Negatives: Lacks ideal size and probably will be limited to the weak side at the next level. Has a tendency to run around blocks and take himself out of plays. Still somewhat inexperienced and needs to work on mastering the linebacker position.

Overall analysis: A backup until his junior season, McDonald exploded onto the scene in 2001 and established himself as one of Conference USA’s better linebackers. McDonald is cat quick and shows a good burst on the football field. He has demonstrated an impressive ability to get into the opponent’s backfield and finish plays as evidenced by his 26 tackles for loss in 2001. However, McDonald lacks ideal size and, even though he is quick, doesn’t possess top speed for a 230-pound linebacker prospect. McDonald will enter his senior season with a chance to post a repeat performance and prove that he has enough ability to become an effective NFL player. Right now McDonald figures somewhere in the early day two area.

        Chris Clemons Notes-

Chris Clemons, Georgia (LB): Simply not a good choice. Right now Clemons has the look of a late round pick/undrafted free agent type. NFL Draft Blitz

        - Put in ahead of schedule at LB following Boss Bailey's Knee injury in 2001

2001 --Solid spring which included one tackle and one pass deflection in annual spring G-Day game....listed as number two SLB at conclusion of spring drills...played in all 11 games with three starts...season high was an eight-tackle game against Florida in Jacksonville...also had six-tackle games vs. Tennessee, Auburn and Housotn....recorded seven tackles in 2001 Music City Bowl vs. Boston College.

2002 -- Recorded four tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and forced one fumble in annual spring G-Day game....recipient of spring award as the Most Improved Linebacker....listed as number one WLB at conclusion of spring drills....played in 12 games including 10 starts....best games vs. South Carolina (8 tackles and vs. Vandy (6 tackles, 1 sack)....major part of Bulldog defense that is first in the SEC and fourth nationally in scoring defense (15.4 ppg), fourth in the SEC and 16th nationally in total defense (306.7 ypg), has allowed only 24 total second half points in the last six games, and is second nationally in number of scoreless quarters (27)...decided to enter the NFL draft and forego his final season of eligibility......

I am not sold on McDonald. I've seen 40 times posted for him that are slower than the one you posted, MelK. His instincts and and production are fine but if I'm going to draft a linebacker on day one, I want instincts and a time in the 40 under 4.7. Yeah, I know I'm too demanding.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

Clemons needs to go back to school. I bet he goes undrafted.

He has good skills, and good speed. Like a Domnique Stevenson type player with more playmaking ability.
