Here's the dirt on when each player will have their ceremonies, courtesy of TSN:

LaFontaine will have his number retired prior to the March 3 game against Toronto. Gare's ceremony will be before the Nov. 22 game against the New York Rangers.

The guy was MONEY on breakaways... Goalies could not stop the guy. He brought me out of my seat many many many times at the Aud. I actually have a picture of him and I when I was about 15 yrs old and he was signing a Sabres yearbook.. Its hanging on my fridge.

How about the line that he was on with Mogilny and Hawerchuck (I think it was Hawerchuck) when that line was on the ice you knew we we're going to score some goals!

Very classy guy I met him once he was doing a book signing for his book Companions in Courage he still does charity work for Childrens Hospital in Buffalo. He signed my book and my two LaFontaine jerseys B&G and the new one that the SABRES wear now I also have his rookie card and he signed that also.

I remember heading to the arena with my dad the night that Turgeon had been traded for Lafontaine..My father gave a "talking to" that night because I cried as we crossed the Peace Bridge at the loss of my favorite player. He told me that it was part of the business but I refused to listen and hated Lafontaine for a couple of months. Needless to say I came to it and LALALA became a mainstay on the back of my blue and gold for years after.

I'll never forget the one open house they had at the aud...where the players were signing autographs.....I cut about 3,000 people in line...i was about 8 and crawled under the fence they had up....casually snuck in between everyone to get LaFontaines autograph lol. Good times!

Probably one of the best trades that the SABRES ever made! didn't we give another player besides Turgeon to the Islanders to get LaFontaine  I thought we did.

http://www.buffalonews.com/graphics/2005/10/18/1018d1b.jpgThe Buffalo Sabres made up for lost time Monday. Nearly 10 years after they last retired a sweater number, the Sabres honored former stars Danny Gare and Pat LaFontaine with the announcement that their numbers will be taken out of circulation permanently.

JD, you probably were a few behind me. It was the year of the lockout and my brother, my friend and I were walking near the Sabres dressing room... all of a sudden we got rushed into a line that started at the dressing room door. Out pops Patty and I'm third in freaking line totally unexpected! At that time, Dom and Patty were like freaking rockstars. They couldn't walk around the arena floor like the Jason Dawes and Robb Staubers could.

Speaking of Hasek, if i remember correctly, the night before the carnival that year, he got arrested for DWI or something related to that. During the carnivals, they used to take a Sabres goalie and put him in a goal in the corner of the rink and they would let the fans shoot pucks. Well, it was no fun scoring on Robb Stauber. ;)

That line was probably the closest thing to an offensive powerhouse that Buffalo has ever had, aside from the French Connection. LaFontaine & Mogilny alone put up more points than some of the offenses this team probably had entirely in recent years.

Good times! :peace:

Bad choice selecting the Toronto game. You know the arena will be filled with Leaf fans.

My buddies bought seasons in the lower bowl and they are getting half of their money back selling of the Leafs tickets alone. They also got a nice chunk back selling off all the Sydney Crosby games to Canadians.

I wonder if the players themselves had a say in which game their jerseys would be raised?

That's a good question...I know that Thurman Thomas requested the Dolphins game for when he was put on the Wall of Fame

Just as an FYI:

If you got to the Sabres' official site now, it is advertising the 11/22 game where Gare's jersey will be retired:
