    Today is the trade deadline...

I certainly hope that Mr. Donahoe is not resting on his laurels. Bills are in a great position to steal the division THIS YEAR. This team needs a few reinforcements on both lines, but I also believe the Bills could use veteran depth in the secondary and at RB. I would like to see a battle tested vet behind McGahee to help with a playoff run. Unfortunately, the Bills likely only have enough cap space for 1 addition. I believe the most "desperate" need is help at DT to stop the run. I will briefly outline my needs:

    1) DT: The run D is below average. Far too many 20+ gains. The best teams in the league will run over us in the playoffs, if we make it. There's not much available. Most teams are still in the hunt, but a team like the Texans who are likely to be rebuilding with a new coaching staff in '06 has a veteran DT I like. His name is Seth Payne. He plays predominantly NT, but I believe he could give us the help we need inside. His 2005 salary is $1 million but the Bills would be on the hook for only $647,059. He is signed thru 2008, but he would likely be asked to re-work his 2006 salary of $2.8 million. NOTE: If the Bills weren't playing the Raiders this week OR if the trading deadline was next Tuesday, I would consider Ted Washington for the rest of 2005.

    2) 3rd CB: I'm sick and tired of our D giving up 1st downs on 3rd and longs. Eric King may develop into a solid #3 CB, but he's a rookie and at times, he gets burned on 3rd down. The sad part is that he's apparently ahead of Jabari Greer on the depth chart. Texans offer up another possibility in DB Marcus Coleman. He can play both CB and FS. He offers a dimension that the Bills do not have, a tall, physical DB who can win match ups in the red zone. His salaries are palatable. His prorated 2005 salary would be $1,002,941. His salary for 2006 is $1.785 million and for 2007 it's $2.1 million. Lenny Walls with the Broncos is a possibility as well. He's scheduled to be UFA after 2005. Broncos tendered him at the mid-level 1st rd tender of $1.43 million, but he's presently listed as #4 on their depth chart. He could offer the same as Coleman but with more speed and long-term upside. Prorated 2005 salary is $925,294. Rumor on PFT has Antoine Winfield available. His 2005 salary is very cheap but his 2006-2009 salaries are all over $4 million. I would doubt he's really available.

    3) OL: Bills really need some veteran depth on the OL, especially OT. Unfortunately, so does nearly every team in the league. Not likely that anyone becomes available at a price the Bills are willing to pay

    4) RB: As I stated, I would like to see a veteran behind McGahee for the stretch run. Look at the Steelers depth, they are constructed as a playoff team. I do not have any names because this is likely a luxury we cannot afford.

Hey, great points! I dont know if it is still the case, but I remember in the beginning of the year that the Vikings were looking to move one of their CBs. I dont remember who he was or if he is still with them, perhaps someone else knows?

It's about time someone admitted that our CB depth is not as good as the Bills make them out to be. I think we'll get roasted constantly by the Patriots passing game (who spread the ball out to so many different receivers) since our #3 CBs and beyond are not that great. It happened last year against them.

Also, I definetly like the Seth Payne idea. And considering teams with good D-Lines, is there anyone from Jacksonville, Philly, Atlanta, or Indy we could trade for? I think those 4 teams have good starters, but I dont know much about their depth or even if they are even looking to move anyone.

If not an offensive tackle, I dont think it would hurt to pick up a big guard. Duke Preston is okay, but still needs time to progress. I dont really know what O-Guards are available at this time either. I will be happy with 2 good moves if TD pulls it off.

I like Seth Payne, he is a great suggestion clump. He isnt a beast, by anymeans, but he is like Anderson and Edwards in one. I believe he is a little quicker than both of them (Thats just off the top of my head)

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
          It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

I love the Seth Payne call, but my guy for us is Damione Lewis. STL runs a 4-3 and Lewis isnt even starting. Why I have no frikkin clue, the guy is a stud. He is a FA after this year so a trade doesnt make much sense. But this guy is EXACTLY our type of guy.

Conditional pick. Peyton must also sign a 10yr contract extension and play for league minimum.

I graduated with Seth. I went to Victor (class of '93), and still work in Victor right now. I still talk with Seth. He flew up and interviewed with the Jets in the offseason (I'm a diehard Jets fan), as soon as he got off the plane on his return flight, the Texans signed him to a 4 year deal.

He said he didn't want to leave that area, so don't count on getting him.

Also, he has some serious injuries. I think both knees. I know he had a rotator cuff thing, but the knees are the problem.

I think the Seth Payne is a fine idea, but I have to say I disagree with getting a veteran RB. Shaud has been doing great for us when he is in and is even blocking/picking up blitzes better than McGahee. It may be another reason he is usually in on 3rd downs instead of Willis - but maybe Mularkey doesn't want McGahee to take it personally and doesn't say that. Shaud might even catch better than McGahee does. All in all, I think Shaud has done great.

As for better backup Tackles for the Oline, Dylan McFarland was doing much better. I have no idea why he has disappeared off the radar screen of the Bills this year. I felt he looked better than Jerman in TC and can't understand why he didn't make the team.

Lastly, I liked that Gray experimented this past game with having 3 DEs and Sam Adams in (at times). It seemed to work well and maybe that is something that he needs to experiment more with.

The Bills biggest need is DT. The defense is getting killed by the run game and we still have to face LT, Holmes, Gordon, Martin, Johnson, Dillion, Bronco's RBs.

The O-line is playing fine ever since the benching of JP. Actually they weren't playing that bad with JP, he just made them look worse then they really are.
