Marvin Lewis went back to Baltimore on Friday morning liking his chances of returning to Cincinnati as the Bengals' ninth head coach.

Lewis told friends upon his return home that he felt good about his two interviews with Bengals officials.

Lewis, who appears to be the leading candidate to replace the fired Dick LeBeau, flew to Cincinnati on Thursday afternoon and had his first interview with the Brown family ownership group that night. Before leaving Friday morning, he had breakfast and took a tour of the city.....more

Mularkey gets second interview, but Lewis likely choice

While all indications are that Washington Redskins defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis is the frontrunner to be the Cincinnati Bengals' new head coach, team officials will interview one more candidate early this week before making a final decision.

League officials confirmed to ESPN.com that Mike Mularkey, the Pittsburgh Steelers' offensive coordinator, will meet with Bengals owner Mike Brown for a second time. The sitdown is expected to take place Monday or Tuesday during Senior Bowl practices in Mobile, Ala.

Even so, Lewis -- who's desired a head coaching opportunity the last several years -- has not only emerged as the favorite for the job but one member of the NFL's workplace diversity committee assessed that he "is pretty much a lock" right now to get it.....more

Bengals decide on Lewis over Mularkey

The Cincinnati Bengals ended their two-week search for a new head coach on Tuesday, reaching an agreement with Washington Redskins defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis to succeed the deposed Dick LeBeau, ESPN.com has confirmed through team and league sources.

Details of the contract were not immediately available, but sources indicated earlier in the week the deal would likely be for five years and with salaries in the $1.5 million range. Cincinnati officials, who are in Mobile, Ala., for the annual Senior Bowl all-star game, are expected to announce the hiring there.

The Bengals have called an 8:30 p.m. ET news conference for tonight to announce the move.

Lewis becomes the third African-American head coach in the league, joining Tony Dungy of Indianapolis and Herm Edwards of the New York Jets......more
