It would be an understatement to say Buffalo Bills offensive line coach Jim McNally is a stickler for the fundamentals of the game. "Oh, he's fanatical," Bills guard Chris Villarrial said. "There's no doubt about it."
Take the case of Blake Brockermeyer.
Back in 1995, McNally was coaching the line for the Carolina Panthers, and Brockermeyer was one of his rookies. Brockermeyer just couldn't grasp the basic first move in pass blocking, the kick-step. The tackle is supposed to kick his outside foot back at a 45-degree angle to get in position to stop the oncoming pass rusher. more
