There are a number of poor to very average teams on that list. The 2nd highest 3rd down conversion rate has done little for the Packers.

At any rate, the Bills need a lot more than a TE.

Are you sure? Do you know who are Dallas Clark and Bubba Franks?
Colts and Packers drafted them on the first round and just ask to their divisional rivals if they are still significant factors on critical situations.

On the other hand, Carolina is the most interesting team on this list to watch carefully. They really know how to win and it's interesting to see that they are the only team on this list that do not have "good" TEs.

Bills are simply a joke at TE and Tom Clements should learn something about how to use two HBs (Stephen Davis and DeShaun Foster) and one FB (Goings or Hoover) at the same time.

I think the Packers have too many problems to be a winning team. A weak offensive line, and their WRs are injured. Their defense isnt that great either, except for KGB. Both their running backs, Ahman Green and Nejah Davenport are also out. Bubba Franks and Donald Driver are pretty much the only weapons that Brett Favre has to work with.

Both TEs and Slot Receivers are important for 3rd down conversions, IMO. The Panthers have good WR depth.

Wow, I just noticed something crazy. Here are the stats for the Titans's Tight Ends:

1. Erron Kenney: 44 Receptions for 459 Yards in 9 Games.
2. Ben Troupe: 28 Receptions for 202 Yards in 8 Games.

That's pretty impressive. He's 2nd in the league in receptions, behind Antonio Gates. And 3rd in the league in receiving yards, behind Gates and Jeremy Shockey.

Anyone know anything about Erron Kenney? I never really heard about him except for his name...

Agree that at any rate Bills need a lot more than a TE but all the AFC East are struggling and it's exactly time to do some "investments" to win.

Small differences will define playoffs and IMO Bills FO need to address someone who can add respect to this offense.

On the other hand, Packers' third-down conversion rate has done a little for them but I cannot say that this rate would not help Bills this season...

Titans really know the impact at that position (Frank Wycheck) and it's really impressive to know that Kenney and Troupe are the best duo at TE's in the league.

Titans also have a very good depth on rookie Scaife and just check their contract status:

Kinney signed a five-year deal in March 2004.
Troupe agreed to a four-year deal with the Titans in July of 2004 that will pay him approximately $3.2 million.
Scaife agreed to a three-year, $1.09 million contract.

Check out Bubba Franks and Dallas Clark's stats - neither has been very involved. Bubba's back-up has scored more touchdowns then he has. The only thing that Indy and GB have incommon are hall of fame QBs.

Plus Carolina is not the only team on the list with undistinguished tight ends - who are the starting tight ends for Jacksonville and Tampa Bay? Definitely no one that is a major receiving threat.

Right, but amazingly, the packers have a 1-7 record while OUTSCORING the opposition. They have scored the most points in the division. Seems almost impossible.

I think their numbers are perhaps a little inflated as well. That abnormal thrashing of the NO Saints 52-3 certainly did wonders for their PF/PA differential.

Overall, they just dont seem to be good enough. Nonetheless, Bubba Franks is a pretty good player.

I can't remember, did they just sign him to an extension during this season? I remmeber there was something going on with his contract.

Where is this thread going? Here is a team with two great TE's and they have only won 2 games. Goes to prove that this is a team game and good TE's don't solve all problems.

If you look at the set of receivers on this team, you see why they are running plays to the TE's. McNair is probably the most underappreciated QB in the league.
Going down the list, not all of them have good TE's, but most do.

1. Indy - Harrison, Wayne, James out of the backfield, Clark (somewhat)
2. Packers - Franks, Martin, Lee, Driver
3. Panthers - Steve Smith
4. Falcons - Crumpler, Finneran
5. Cowboys - Witten, Glenn, Keyshaun
6. Redskins - Cooley, Moss
7. Chargers - Gates, Tomlinson out of the backfield
8. Titans - Kinney, Troupe, Bo Scaife, Bennett (injured)
9. Buccaneers - Galloway, Pittman, Cadillac (first 4 games), Alex Smith
