Apparently the Jets have signed a TE that hasn't played football since the 8th grade.

Its funnythey traded their 1st round pick for Doug Jolley and now sign this guy

Antonio Gates started out as a basketball player in college who didn't play TE. Sounds like he has the physical measurables, and he is on the practice squad. Who knows? It's a small risky investment that might come up with big returns.

Herm Edwards is a bright man with integrity, not sure where you came up with this statement.

They didn't REALLY give up a first round pick for Doug Jolly, did they?

Antonio Gates is 1 in 1,000,000. I saw a special on this on ESPN coaches allways take a look to other sports to try to find the diamond in th rough. AG has been one of the very few great finds.

SIGH...

And to think he could be playing for the Bills if Ol' Ralphy hadn't went and pissed AJ Smith off the way he did.

It sounds like they traded for Jason Peters who hasn't played OT since I think grade school .....

If Peters can be a wonderkid why can not someone else? I bet his Wonderlic score was higher!

That is misleading. The Jets didn't GIVE UP a 1st Round pick for Jolley. They gave the Raiders their 1st rounder, and in return, got the Raiders's 2nd Round Pick.

In essence, the Jets moved from the 1st Round, 26th Pick (which later went to the Seahawks in another trade between Oakland and Seattle) to the 2nd Round, 47th Pick. In other words, their cost for obtaining Jolley was 21 spots in the draft.

The only Tight End I would give up a real 1st Rounder for would be Antonio Gates. Maybe Tony Gonzalez or Jeremy Shockey too. No one in their right mind would give up a 1st for Doug Jolley. There he is:
