Bills Interested in Steve Szabo for LB Coach.

Buffalo adds Steve Szabo to the list of canidates for Linebacker Coach. I find this particularly interesting since Szabo has been coaching a 4-3 D to his LB crew for quite some time. Is the 4-3 coming back to Buffalo????

COACHING BACKGROUND: 1969 Johns Hopkins, 1970 Toledo, 1971-73 Iowa, 1974-76 Syracuse, 1977-78 Iowa State, 1979-81 Ohio State, 1982-84 Western Michigan, 1984-87 Edinboro (head coach), 1988 Northern Iowa, 1989-90 Colorado State, 1991-93 Boston College, 1994-2002 Jacksonville Jaguars

After seven years as the Jaguars’ inside linebackers coach, Steve Szabo now coaches all of the team’s linebackers. Szabo, 58, had been a fixture coaching the inside linebackers (middle and weakside) in the team’s 4-3 “under” defense. With his new responsibilities, Szabo will also coach the team’s outside (strongside) linebackers.

The Patsies are also interested in him. It will be interesting to see if the Bills miss out on another potential coach (seeing as they lost out on Warhop).

Dumb question - Is this the same Steve Szabo that did NFL films?

Your thinking of Steve Sabel. Steve Szabo is a decendant of the family that founded the NHL team The Buffalo Szabo's.

Think if Bettis gets cut by Pittsburgh, TD will go after him?

In a way, it could be a good idea - with our Dominating line, having a dominating back bust through the wholes that the create, but at the same time, if he gets hurt, it's nothing more then dead cap space.

I think Szabo is a relative of the guy who invented the skating-rink grooming machine. He removed the "ni" so as to make his name sound less ethnic.

I think if they brought Steve in, the D would be a lot better but not invinszabo.

As I understand it, Donahoe asked permission right after the regular season to talk to Warhop. The Cardinals denied permission so TD moved on to other candidates. By the time Parcells got the Dallas job and inquired about Warhop, the Bills were looking in other directions. It was a matter of timing more than anything else that Buffalo didn't get Warhop. They never talked to him. That has no bearing on Szabo as a candidate. I don't think Buffalo is having any particular difficulty in interesting qualified candidates.

Steve would not have to make the D invinszabo all by himself. I just hope that by the time these new coaches are in place and the talent is upgraded the D is not inviszabo.

Forget Szabo! Get LeBeau, make him the LB coach (or better yet make him DC and make Gray the LB coach!).
