With Crowell showing that he can play I could see a huge advantage to moving to the 3-4 defense. Spikes - Crowell - Fletcher - Posey at LB. Get a real DT and a DE in free agency...then move Schobel over to the LDE position...Kelsay makes a great back up and Denny gets cut...

I think it is easier to get 2 DL to rebuild the line than get 3.

we have no backup LB's who can play- we'd need depth.

Too bad Sam Adams is old and has a bad attitude- he'd be a great NT in a 3-4.

I agree Eb id love to see that here.

If we get one of those stud DT's in this years draft and are abale to get a capable DE that would be a good move.

I don't know if I'd depend on a rookie DT to anchor a 3-4.

You need a big physical dt-nt first off .. then two big physical de's .. which we don't have .. then u need big lb's especially in the middle ...which we also don't have .. so why should we go to the 3-4 again ?????? That's alot to ask for in fa ....

According to Mularkey in last weeks Q&A, they already use variations of the 3-4.

Posey sucks. Spikes may never be the same again. Fletcher is getting old . The 3-4 won't solve this defenses problems

Kelsay and Bannan rotating at LDE
Schobel and Denney rotate at RDE
Posey-Fletcher-Spikes-Crowell at the starting LB spots
Helmetguy and I were discussing this on the way home from San Diego last week
But we don't have a single DT on the roster who would be a good fit at NT in the 3-4 so we'd need to get at least 2 good NTs and a couple more backups at LB

As far as Posey sucking, he was pretty good in a 3-4 in Houston but, just as I've pointed out his entire time in Buffalo, it's just like Bryce Paup...he's not going to put up numbers at SLB in a 4-3 the way he did at SOLB in a 3-4

it's not just numbers, Phil. When does he make tackles? When does he make big hits? When is he around the ball? There have been entire games where the announcers don't call his name at all, and he's on the field for virtually every defensive play.

Ya. It's a good theory - one that I've gone over before. We would have to draft like Dallas did last year, get a DT in free agency, get a back up MLB, and on top of all that, we would have to get a DC who knows how to run the 3-4.

I don't recall Bryce Paup ever being that invisible.

or a DC who knows how to run a D period. That would be nice.

I don't recall Bryce Paup ever being that invisible.Well I do...we moved to a 4-3 and he might as well have not been there. Play at the SLB spot improved when Sam Rogers took over the spot..cause Paup couldn't cover for ****
