Just read this on Yahoo!: "Tom E. Curran, of the Providence Journal, reports New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has been named Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year for 2005. "

Am I missing something, or is this just a misguided popularity vote? Since being the QB on the winning side of the SB in the first month of the year, Brady has been nothing more than average in every aspect of his game. He's even proclaimed a lack of motivation this season, wondering what's left to achieve!

Way to go, SI. You've proven once again why ESPN is the real -- and perhaps the only -- game in town.

I wish Buffalo could find/develop a QB who could "average" stats like these:

<table style="width: 644px; height: 79px;" border="0" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1"> <tbody><tr class="bg1" valign="top"><th>Year</th> <th>Team</th> <th>G</th> <th>GS</th> <th>Att</th> <th>Comp</th> <th>Pct</th> <th>Yards</th> <th>YPA</th> <th>Lg</th> <th>TD</th> <th>Int</th> <th>Tkld</th> <th>20+</th> <th>40+</th> <th>Rate</th> </tr> <tr class="bg3"> <td>2005</td><td>New England Patriots</td><td>11</td><td>11</td><td>387</td><td>237</td><td>61.2</td><td>3030</td><td>7.83</td><td>71</td><td>18</td><td>10</td><td>19/145</td><td>45</td><td>8</td><td>90.5</td> </tr> </tbody> </table>
Hate on Brady, hate on the Pats, the feelings are mutual, but it's hard to call Brady 'average' with a straight face...

he came into the kc game last week with 17 td's and 6 int's. he had a bad game,it happens. stat wise he is having a fantastic year(with still 5 games left). way to show your hate and biased for the man.

I'd think that being named Sportsman of the Year would be about both play on the field and charity work off it.
