All the article says is they will continue talks and he will still go to the Cards if they offer a 5th year

That is a ton of money and years for a guy who's 49-50 and seems to be a head case.

What was Pavanno's numbers before he got that big deal?

AJ is more proven. He has a good era over his career, lots of K's. Overcame tommy john. And if you play for a bad team, records are overrated for pitchers. ERA is the big stat to look at.

Pavano was overpaid as well IMO.

AJ hasn't played on bad teams, the Fish have been pretty good over the past 3-4 years.

Riccaridi has to over pay to get FA's to come to TO. He got the best SP available, and the best closer available. Did he over pay, probably, but at least players will consider Toronto again.

Halladay and Burnett will make a sick 1-2 punch!

Roy is my 2nd favorite pitcher after Pedro. The guy is sick. AJ came out of Mets farm system.

Marlins finished in 4th place last year. THEY STUNK. They have been around .500 since the WS team and they started disbanding then. And Now completely broke team apart.

If Roy can finally stay healthy. Poor guy was having another CY Young year and gets beaned by a liner. Sucks. If AJ and Roy can both stay healthy, with Chacin, Towers and Lilly, the Jays might end up with one of the better staffs in the AL. They are big IFs, however. I'm just happy that the organization is doing SOMETHING again. It seems like yesterday that they were the team to beat.

The Blue Jays do have the best Staff in AL EAST. That Chacin character was solid last year

As Randy and Curt are both done.

On paper perhaps... Let's see how it goes when they play the games.

Marlins have had 2 good years their whole existance.

Just happens since they won those 2 years that people think they've been consistently good.

Marlins were:

83-79 in 2005
83-79 in 2004
91-71 in 2003 w/World Series win
79-83 in 2002
76-86 in 2001
79-82 in 2000
64-98 in 1999
54-108 in 1998
92-70 in 1997 w/World Series win
80-82 in 1996
67-76 in 1995
51-64 in 1994
64-98 in 1993

Definitely were anything but consistent.

AJ came up in 1999 so they have been at least close to 500 since he's been there. That isn't to bad.

I hope you are right. Did the Bosox get Beckett in the Florida deal? If they did, their staff is going to still be pretty good, even without Curt.

I just read that Peter "I would take a bullet for the BoSox" Gammons said Boston almost called the deal off after reading the MRI on Beckett's shoulder...

Still, almost must not have been enough since the deal went through. Interesting bit of info regardless...
