Good read, especially for anyone hoping Mularkey is gone:

BTW this can be found on the billszone.com homepage.

While Mularkey is lumped into the same fan/media doghouse that’s been occupied by Tom Donahoe, he probably shouldn’t be. True, Donahoe hired Mularkey, but this shouldn’t be an entry. Each should stand on his own merit, or lack thereof.

Big Mike doesn’t get a free pass here; far from it, but he didn’t inherit the same team he had a year ago and that should be a part of Ralph C. Wilson’s eventual off-season decision process.

I think it matters that Mularkey survives, because there is far from any guarantee a head coaching change at this juncture would put the Bills in any better position than they’re in right now. They need some player help, more than they need a coaching change.

On top of that, the 34 year old Mularkey has some qualities that have either been forgotten or lost in the pall of pessimism permeating the premises.

As offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh, Mularkey’s Steelers were in the top 5 in the NFL in total offense in 2001 and 2002, and in his first year as head coach with the Bills in 2004, the offense scored 152 more points than it had the previous season.

That team also started 0-4, and it was Mularkey’s steadiness that helped the team turn things around and narrowly miss the playoffs with six straight wins on the way to a 9-7 season, which is three more wins than the previous season as well.

Terrible article. Whenever a writer can't get someone's age right, I lose all respect. He knows there will be hundreds, thousands, maybe tens of thousands people reading this and he doesn't even get the guy's age right. Pathetic.

I agree. Kilgore said "Fans won’t like the news that Mularkey will be back, even when and if Donahoe goes, but a staff change or two, a good draft and a solid free agent signing or two – and oh yes, a little time – will have most Bills fans back in 2006."

What a moron. Statements like "a good draft and a solid free agent signing or two" are for teams like the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, San Diego Chargers, and the Bengals. The fact is that we are not as good as we thought we are and we have LOTS of work to do. IMO, It's going to take a roster turnover, 2 good drafts, and subsequent free agent signings to turn us into contenders.

I stopped reading when I saw that...

To me, it's very irritating when a writer getting facts wrong like that, whether its age, or spelling names wrong, etc. The MOST irritating thing though is when the guys calling games mispronounce names. Like, calling Losman LOSEman. Or I remember watching one of the Bengals games and I think it was Randy Cross ( who I cannot stand!) pronounced it T.J. Hoosh-mon-zuh-day. I know that's a tough name, but do your f'n prep work! Anyone who knows anything about the league (and he SHOULD) should get these things right!

So much incompetence out there...

last year was last year-

this year, Mularkey has been outcoached in every game, even the ones we somehow managed to win. He also lost control of the players- there is no discipline and no heart on this team and that's his fault.

I agree with most of what you say about Mike Mularkey, having character
and all that. However, I'm going to quote a famous line from Mr. Winston
Wolf, from the movie Pulp Fiction. "Just because you are a charatcer
doesn't mean you have character." The players obviously have a BIG
problem with BIG Mike evident by the behavior of some of the veteran players on
this team, namely Moulds and Adams. I mean this is someone who thinks that
not disclosing information, such as who his QB is going to be on a week to
week basis, actually gives him an advantage. Are you kidding me? As if either
QB strikes fear into a college defense let alone and NFL one. Nevermind the
fact this is also someone who somehow rationalizes that lining up in the
shotgun formation on 3rd and short is a good idea; as if our team is
good enough to reveal to the defense what play they are going to run. For
crissakes, if you are going to pass on 3rd & short, at least line up in
a run heavy formation as to at least give the defense the indication that
you might run it, might being the key word here. That kind of coaching reeks
ofKevin Gilbride's style and we all know where that got him, but the
biggest problem I have with Mularkey is the statisitc that shows the Bills are
at the top of the league in 1st half scoring but dead last in the league in
second half offensive production. That statistic tells me that our
coaching staff is incapable of making the neccessary adjustments to coincide with
whatever adjustments the defense has made. Hell a good coach doesn't
wait until half-time, he is capable of making adjustments on the fly, from
series to series. I'm afraid we cannot say that same for Mike Mularkey. I'm not
even going to get started on the defense. Just some thoughts.

Kilgore's response:
Thanks Anthony--

Good points, but trust me one thing; the players do NOT have a big
problem with Mularkey. They all know Adams has been ineffective at
times, and they know Moulds has been a distraction in the locker room,
and it finally boiled over in Miami. I totally agree with you about some
of the wacky things Mularkey does with the media about his qb's, etc.,
but he's the lesser of two evils. Keep him and hope it's kinda like when
Cleveland hated Belichick, but it turns out he didn't have the right
personnel, or fire him and hire an nfl re-tread who has just failed
somewhere else, or another college guy with no nfl experience. No real
attractive options here.

I've got one thing to say short and sweet. 5 words.

Mularkey is a complete moron and needs to go. If he doesn't get fired this year it will be next and another wasted year.

Ok, maybe that was 10 words. Get rid of the tool.
