Have you ever seen a player have such a bad year when it's his "contract" year? I think it's hilarious! If last season was his contract year...he might've gotten the highest CB money, now it's going to go wayyy down. :snicker:

Devin
12-24-2005, 01:52 PM
had he had a season like last year hed be looking at Champ Bailey money.

Going into the 3rd Quarter of this game hes given up 6 catches to 3 recievers.

Devin

As of right now hes been burned for 10 catches.

It would have been 2-3 more if it werent for drops (none attributed to his cover)

Nate Clements = most over rated CB in the league.

Mahdi

Let him go and fix the lines. Tagging him is risky if no one gives anything up for him. Then we're stuck with a big contract.

The price of the franchise tag is dropping a couple million dollars, according to WGR. I was listening the other day and Paul Hamilton said it's going down to just under $6 million, instead of the $8.5 million or whatever it is.

Could of been worse. CJ had a couple drops. Let Nate go.

Where are all the Nate fans?

I wanna hear the defense this week.

In fact this game he was just about the only negative.

For a First Rounder?

Devin
12-24-2005, 04:22 PM
Nah most people seem to think a 2nd is best we will do.

BUT

with this years OL draft class 2 2nd rounder and 2 3rd rounders we could do a lot of damage.

I guess a second rounder would be better than nothing. And more first day picks are definitely needed.

Does anyone know how many compensatory picks we should be getting. Is it 1 for PW and 1 for JJ?

Wasn't Jonas injured a good chunk of the year? I doubt we'd get compensation for him if that's the case

Ya but isn't the fact that he signed a huge contract a factor also?

I have been saying it all season! Just another poor ass performance by Nate. He is not worth the money, and will not get top corner money. I think he honestly believes he is still a shut down corner.....what a joke!!!!! Do not franchise this guy!!!

gr8slayer
12-24-2005, 07:37 PM
If he would be willing to take anything less than number three type money then I say keep him.

So the guy had a bad day against maybe the best WR in the NFL. Guys, everyone has a couple bad games. Nate does something that only about three other CB's in the league can do. Tackle like an LB. The guy rarely misses a tackle and is a hell of a run supporter.

I still think Nate is a Bill next year and gets his contract, not number one cash but a fair contract.

J-Dog
12-24-2005, 07:42 PM
No way he is a Bill next year, he will want at least 7-8 million per year. We cannot afford to keep him with the amount of O-Line problems we have. Besides, he has had more the one or two bad days, like I said, he had been burned all season long!!

tag and trade.
This is exactly what Bills should do... the problem is how...

I've been saying for weeks that we need to ditch Nate with mixed reviews from fellow zoners- glad more people are starting to see the light!
Again, I'd keep him for average money, but he's going to want top dollar, and to repeat what's already been said numerous times, he's just not worth it.

Man, wea re starting to sound like the media...always pointing out the bad in someone.

I agree that Nate has not been looking like a top 3 CB, but let's not forget that he is a pretty good CB and he may be doing us a favor by playing less than desirable play in his final year and maybe making it easier for Buffalo to sign him when he maybe doesn't get his big pay day.

Either way, we will get something positive out of this. Either resigning (or tag) or a decent trade.

On the Bengals website one of the wide receivers TJ Hozmadadahadadada said that he was suprized that the Bills defense double teamed him during the game and left Johnson in single coverage. I think the Bills defense every week puts Nate on single coverqage of their best wide out and every week it seems their best receiver gets alot of yards. Maybe a new game plan like Nate on the 2nd best receiver and double team the best one would work better?

Yup, it helps to have an elusive game plan.

Lucky for the Bills they didn't give him an extension prior to the season after a fluke visit to the Pro Bowl. His true colors came out with a sub par defense.

I'm not opposed to tagging him and keeping him. From what I read it will be around 5.7 million which isn't that bad. If he performs great next year then long term him. If he plays bad let him go. If someone offers a great player or draft pick after we tagged him we should stringly consider it though. Basically I am against just letting him walk or long terming him now after the year he had.

All I know is that Saturday, McGhee looked like he played Clements out of a job. Remember too that not only was Nate going to be a 'shutdown' corner, but a double threat at returns on ST. Well? He's not doing either.

dont think anyone realizes we are in cover 2 and alot of zones more then u think i know none of us have the coaches type but ive watched half the bills games in HD which is next closest thing we are in a zone most of the time nate has a play happen on his side had he played as well as last year NO. but has the D as a whole has same pass rush and so on as last year NO. ANY CB will get toasted more then he should if the pass rush isnt getting there.

franchise TAG # under 6 mil is a steal for clemenets. i think he signs a 5 year 35 mil deal and stays a a bill for a long time!

anyone who thinks his play is going to affect his FA value is smoking some weed. If Nate takes the highest bidder in FA, he's is getting a 10 mil signing bonus this off season. (and a 50-70 mil contract) that's life in the NFL folks.

btw: I know... that Nate LIKES Buffalo, and wants to stay here. That he's even willing to take less money to stay with the team.

but don't let me stop you from running him out of town.

Nate Clements = most over rated CB in the league.

Actually, that's Ty Law. Then Nate, maybe. I don't want to lose him, but if some other team is going to give him $400 million over the next 1.785 years, then take him.

I wish they would get the damn CBA out of the way so we have an idea how long we can drag out a signing bonus.

I'm not adverse to keeping Clements in town if he can come at the home town discount.

He was a very key member in last year's top defense. i can't beleive he's total dog crap after 1 year.

???
I'm curious to know which 5 corners you feel are better not only in coverage, but all around than Champ Bailey.
There are some I do feel are underrated (like Tory James and Rashean Mathis), but I can't think of 5 corners in this league better than Champ.
