SAN DIEGO (Jan. 20, 2003) -- Got Gruden? It was a question printed on the T-shirts of Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans already staked out at the team hotel. When word spread that the charismatic head coach wouldn't be present at the arrival press conference, members of the media wanted to know, "Where's Gruden?"
"Jon is staying behind for game planning," said Buccaneers general manager Rich McKay, who did meet with the media, along with several players. "If he traveled today, it would kill your one big planning day. We have him on a chartered flight out here at 5:30 a.m. [Tuesday]. Knowing Jon, he'd already be up for a few hours by then. This is the biggest game we will ever play."
