A different sort of thread, gurus required?

It's 2nd and 8 ( after a daunting 2 yard run up the middle by WM).

Buffalos offense alignment is 80 and 83 split wide, single TE and split backs.

Heres the question, what, as a defensive coor. would you do and why?

I would call a play action short pass, either to a running back or tight end, maybe a slot wide receiver. Set up either a 1st down, or a 3rd and short.

As the opposing DC, I would call the "Metrocard" defense, i.e., insert your metrocard into the turnstiles and proceed towards the QB.

            4 - 3 defense.

OLB blitzes on the side without the TE. The other OLB plays man on the TE while the middle LB plays zone in the middle and watches for screens. Both CBs play man on the two WRs and the safeties play zone behind the CBs.

I would set up in this alignment to cover for the pass (which we've tended to do more than running). The blitzing LB will put pressure on the QB but there aren't enough blitzers to leave the defense exposed for a big gain. Also a run here won't be too devastating with the middle LB watching and the 2 safeties keeping an eye on things.

Who are the Bills playing? Personnel would play a big part into what play I'm calling.

                Oh sorry, defensive coordinator, right.....

4-3 base defense, cover 2 zone, zone blitz, make sure you cover the quick slants and back out of the backfield.

someones already seeing it! Keep the inputs coming! And it does not matter who we play, we are always the same! This question is are maybe not so glaring weakness.

Drop eight in coverage and rush three.. WE ARE PLAYING THE BILLS RIGHT..

With holcomb at quarterback it will be a three yard pass..

In a 4-3 set I would play man 2 man. Showing blitz at the line, my safeties would be playing zone and I would be pressuring up the gut.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
                        It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.
