My worst fears have been officially confirmed----Danny Briere is out for the season. This means that our best offensive player is now gone, officially. I think it's time to move for another goal scorer. We can't assume that this team will be a Hasek-led Sabres, and continue to roll right through with the 1 goal wins all of the time.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Sabres centre Daniel Briere has been diagnosed with a sports hernia and will have surgery in Montreal early next week.

Briere is expected to be out until April. He had an ultrasound scan in Toronto on Friday that confirmed the sports hernia. He was examined on Thursday by Montreal Canadiens team physician Dr. David Mulder, a specialist in abdominal injuries.

You don't want to see an injury (Especially of Buffalo's #1 offensive player) prompt Darcy to get off of his ass, but maybe now he'll move. There are guys out there who can be had for a goaltender. The biggest talk seems to have been about Vancouver, and I'd love to see Biron moved for someone like Brendan Morrison, who has lately "fallen from grace" in Vancouver. Moving him from the top line with Naslund & Bert to the 3rd line isn't exactly a vote of confidence from Crawford.

Don't misunderstand me as doubting Buffalo's resilience over the season, but I just don't want to see them think they can have this team go on through the year like a Hasek-led Sabres. All goaltending and some grinding wins. Miller, Biron & Noronen are no Hasek. I like the offense enough right now, but it would be great to see a Sykora or Morrison in to this team for Biron. He must be dealt, if he is to be dealt, before the "hotness" wears off.

I'm talking about pure offensive talent. Briere puts Drury to shame. If we were talking Colorado or Boston U Drury, then it'd be a different story.

Actually, it's only April as it is.

Hopefully he'll be ready to go if we make the playoffs.

well,

Timmy is puting him to shame this year,

haha,

I think the team can fill the gaps, we have 4 lines that can score if they go at it...

This should provoke a trade of one of the goalies.

There's no way this team can make a legit run w/o somebody to replace Briere.

They have been one of the best teams in the league without him. IT's not the end of the world.

They shoulda done this a month ago.

If this prompts a trade then it's for the wrong reasons. The team is playing well. The only way a trade is any good is if the player that comes in will fit into our locker room...and the way things look that is huge. The removal of Satan seems to have been a big positive...it would be a shame to have an addition that was a negative.

If we can trade Biron for help, then so be it. I don't necessarily think we need to run out right now and buy a replacement for Briere. He hasn't really been playing for the past month (except for a few games) and we've been fine.

Vanek has shown he can score the key goal and is starting to figure out the NHL game. Whenever Briere comes back and we have 2 lines with a sniper, we're gonna be excellent.

I agree with the part about it being done a month ago..... Think the Habs doctor misdiagnosed on purpose? ;)

I think that this was everyones worst fear.

He'll probably be back for the playoffs, though.

haha,

Briere has 23 points in 24 games.

Connolly has 32 points in 39 games. By my calculations, Briere's points-per-game pace is better. I don't see how Timmy is putting Briere to shame at all. Maybe I'm missing something, or you hate Briere as much as Satan?
