Philster thinks the draft is a scam. ESPECIALLY if you have a top 10 pick!

It depends on who is doing the picking for Buffalo. It didn't hurt Buffalo at all when Bill Polian picked. It didn't hurt Gruden picking at the 5 spot last year.

Again KEEP THE PICK and take some REAL Talent.

EXACTLY! Do you really expect Tom Donahoe to take advantage of a high draft pick? I don't.

We passed over Roy Williams (who was taken at #6ish) when we needed safety help. Our team would be a lot different if we had taken advantage of that position and had drafted him. The only thing that the #4 pick does is show how TD screwed up and drafted the wrong Williams.

Actually, with the SOS as close as it is, we could slide even further. Botht he teams right behind us played at least one of these two teams, so even if St. Louis wins we may slide to #9. If Dallas wins, we may slide to #10.

Either way we're getting a top 10 pick.

Charles Woodson #4
Takeo Spikes #13

just a couple of names from later in that same draft that were infinitely better than Ryan Leaf..who was drafted #2 overall as you pointed out ;)

True, but each slot could be the difference between getting or missing a guy like D'Brick.

And that just strengthens our point that getting a top 10 pick means something. What exactly is your evidence trying to prove Philster?

D'Brick will be gone after the 4th pick anyways.

that the draft is a crap shoot..you have practically the same chance of landing an impact player with a pick in the middle part of the round as you do in the early part...and you aren't forced to pay as much

I wonder how much more peaceful this site would be if we drafted two spots higher in 2004 and Big Ben was our QB now?

Phil, higher is better.

Besides, it gives me a reason to care about the game tonight.

He woulda still had to play behind the same O-line

Not much. He would have been labeled a bust by now because of the crappy OL he'd be playing behind.

Options, Phil. It's all about options.

I wanted the Bills to draft Ed Reed at #4, but they drafted Mike Williams. Everyone said #4 was too high for Ed Reed. That doesn't make the #4 pick a bad place to pick.

I know that..partly messin with ya, and partly in wonderment about how much stock people pit into the higher draft slot...yeah, you get a few more options but if your GM and staff know what they are doing, you can get a player who will perform just as well sometimes or even better at a lower slot..and you aren't forced to pay him as much. That's why you see teams looking to trade down out of the top slots...they don't wanna pay such a ridiculous contract to a rookie who may or may not be a good player. Look at Leaf...the Chargers were crippled for a few years because of that pick.
Matt Hasselbeck
Charlie Batch
Brian Griese
Jonathan Quinn
all QBs drafted later in the 98 draft that were each more productive than Leaf...and they didn't cost nearly as much

You got that right, just look at where all our top players were picked, late first, or out of the first, it is very rare for a top 10 pick to live up to expectations. The only differnce between a top 10 or a late first round is the money you pay him.

With Phil's logic, we should trade out of the first two rounds and stockpile picks later in the draft. That way we don't have to pay them much. Of course, if you suck at late round picks it won't matter much, but hey, we will have so much more cap room.
